Engineering Director, Dax Douet, P.E. speaks on spot dredging underway in the Vermilion River—Lafayette Public Trust Fund Authority’s downtown office hosted Bayou Vermilion District for a special presentation. In Q1 ’21, Fenstermaker conducted bathymetric survey of the Vermilion River at the request of Lafayette Consolidated Government, mapping 31mi using specialized sonar equipment to create a 3D rendering of the river bottom. Fenstermaker ID’d 600 anomalies—indicating potential debris—data then used to conduct clean up completed Feb ’22. Now targeting a particularly shallow 4,000ft section of the river near Rotary Point, a survey-data-fueled spot dredging effort has begun with a goal of bringing the water bottom to a depth of 8-10ft, improving navigability through much needed maintenance. Fenstermaker worked closely with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District to obtain necessary permits, ensuring all regulatory requirements were met in advance of this project. Thank you, LCG, for your trust—we appreciate the opportunity to serve the Vermilion River, a waterbody at the heart of our way of life here in Lafayette, LA. #rivermaintenance #dredgingoperations #civilengineering

At 44 y/o, Survey Technician, Jason James, earns AAS in Drafting and Design Technology from SOWELA Technical Community College—a courageous choice to return to college and pursue a new career in Drafting yielding a tremendous result. Jason shares how this life-changing decision, supported by his wife, Courtney, and children, Holt and Griffin, turned into an enriching experience. These young professionals are smart, let them teach you something. 5. Make friends who will be there when you need help." You're an inspiration, Jason.
