Felicello Law P.C. is pleased to report that New York State has agreed to settle the action commenced by partner Kristie Blase, the New York Civil Liberties Union Foundation, and Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP last year to enforce the landmark public defense reform settlement ordered in 2015. We expect that the State’s agreement to extend the protections and mandates of the original 2015 settlement, together with the recent increase in rates for assigned counsel, will bring the State back into full compliance with its constitutional and settlement obligations to provide competent counsel to criminal defendants. #probono #publicdefense
