During the summer months, kids don't have access to school-provided meals. As we all know, food prices have risen drastically in the past few years so parents having to provide more meals at home is very costly. By providing meals to our summer meal sites, we help ensure parents don't have to worry about what their kids will eat during the day and don't incur extra costs. Fun fact: our CEO, Bob Kamensky, is a retired rear admiral who served in the United States Navy. When it came time to do the first summer meals drop-off at the ASYMCA Camp Pendleton Camp Hero Summer Camp, he dropped off those meals personally. #nonprofit #hungerrelief #foodrescue #giveback

We are so grateful to the Parker Foundation for awarding us with a $10,000 grant for general operating support. Their generous contribution will help our efforts to rescue perfectly edible surplus food and redistribute it to San Diegans experiencing hunger. Thank you, Parker Foundation, for your support and commitment to our mission. Together, we are Feeding San Diego!

We are grateful to RTX (previously Raytheon) for choosing Feeding San Diego to receive a $62,500 RTX Military Family Hunger Advocacy grant via Feeding America. This is the third consecutive year we've been chosen to receive this grant, which helps grantees advocate and raise awareness to end hunger among service members and their families. These funds have been instrumental in raising awareness about the issue of military hunger in San Diego County and have allowed us to participate in events and strengthen partnerships with military organizations. Through our Feeding Heroes program, we continue to collaborate with a network of partners dedicated to serving the military community, ensuring our service members and veterans have access to nutritious food. #FeedingHeroes #SupportOurTroops #grantmaking #FeedingAmerica

When you think of San Diego culture, it's likely that pristine beaches, fish tacos, the Padres, and Comic-Con come to mind. Our thought was, why not leverage popular culture to address a pressing social issue? We launched the Hunger Action hero Art Contest in collaboration with the Comic-Con Museum to do just that. Now, years later, the campaign has morphed yet again with the launch of "Hunger Action Heroes Unite!," a comic book to educate young readers about the opportunity of food rescue for hunger relief in a new and engaging way. This year, Dana Williams, our director of marketing & communications, will be on a panel at Comic-Con International to discuss her idea for the contest and subsequent book alongside the book's author, artist, and the education consultant helping to bring the book's message to more kids. If you're going to Comic-Con, join us! #nonprofit #hungerrelief #foodrescue #giveback #comiccon #feedingamerica #hungeractionheroes

Congratulations to our partner Nativity Prep Academy on the opening of their new STEM Center! Nativity Prep Academy is a School Pantry partner of Feeding San Diego, meaning they have a free food distribution onsite for students and their families. The school is all-scholarship, and the students are all low-income and underserved who will be the first generation to graduate from college. Their program is an inspiring 11-year journey that brings deserving students all the way to college. Through a capacity grant fund made possible by Aqualia International Foundation, Nativity Prep was selected by Feeding San Diego to receive a fridge and freezer to increase their capacity to safely store rescued food that they will source from nearby grocery stores. This food rescue is made possible through their partnership with Feeding San Diego. As of right now, the school pantry at Nativity Prep serves 66 households and makes an impact for the students and their families by providing nutritious food at no cost, but there's more to come! #nonprofit #hungerrelief #foodrescue #partnerships
