Ashley is busy working on her mural outside FMS. If you’ve noticed the beautiful painting being added to our building, this is the sweet young lady you can thank! We’re so grateful for her making our building more colorful, cheerful and welcoming. If you’re an artist and interested in adding a mural to part of our building, please email Casey at [email protected]

Our music room is being put to good use! We have lots of talented and creative people here, and we’re thankful to be able to provide a space for music to be made and practiced. Playing music gives people a therapeutic way to express themselves, relax, and grow closer together. We have guitar lessons in the music room every Wednesday at 1:30pm, open to anyone. If you’d like to volunteer to offer music lessons, facilitate free-use time in the music room, or would like to use the space for your own practice, please email Bobby at [email protected].

Our friends Sam, Haze, Michael and Justin are working on making walking sticks to sell as part of our newest micro-industry program. As with our other micro-industries, our walking stick program offers a skill to learn, a healthy and productive way to spend time, a way to make money, and a setting in which to bond and build relationships. The walking sticks are made of diamond willow and take 8-10 hours of tedious work to complete. The last 2 pictures show before and after examples. When they are completed, they will be for sale at the Elizabeth Farm store and at farmer’s markets we attend for $125. Of that amount, $40 goes to the person who made it, and the rest goes to support FMS, including this and other micro-industries. If you’d like to reserve a walking stick for purchase, are interested in volunteering to help facilitate this program, or have any questions, please email Aaron at [email protected].

This is our friend, Michael. He was so happy about getting his Driver License, that as soon as he received it in his mailbox, he came down to the Resource Center to thank the volunteers who helped him and to let us all celebrate with him. He said having the ID helps him feel more dignified and will make things so much easier for him. Thank you to our volunteers who helped him, and thank you to Michael for letting us be a part of your life! If you’d like to volunteer in the Resource Center, please email [email protected] or visit https://lnkd.in/d46cXTeA for more information.

We had so much fun last night at Koinonia. Thank you to everyone who was able to come and participate. It’s really an amazing experience each month to meet new people in our community and have meaningful conversations together. If you haven’t had a chance, we hope you can make it to our next one! Koinonia is every 3rd Thursday of the month at FMS from 6pm to 7pm. If you have any questions about Koinonia, please message us or email [email protected].

On Tuesday, the UMHB Social Work department hosted the 7th annual Connecting the Dots Community Health Summit, and Jeff, our Executive Director, was on a panel about connecting with the faith community! Connecting the Dots is a community-wide event with organizations from Killeen, Harker Heights, Belton, and Temple that come together to “connect the dots” and build partnerships to best help the people we serve. This year, the focus was on mental health. If you represent an organization or ministry and would like to discuss how we might be able to partner together, please email [email protected]!
