We enjoyed connecting with our members at the Independent Bankers Association of New York State (IBANYS) 2024 Annual Convention to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. FHLBNY’s Chief Business Officer, Adam Goldstein, shared an FHLB update with a brief discussion on our financial performance, member behavior, program offerings, credit framework, and more. The event's highlight was the presentation of a plaque, received by John Witkowski and Linda Gregware, to congratulate IBANYS on its 50th anniversary. Thank you to Tom Settino, Director of Member Relations; Kimani S. Little, Government Relations Officer; John Wissing, Vice President, Senior Relationship Officer; and Michael Beifeld, Relationship Management Officer, who also attended the event on behalf of the FHLBNY.

About us
The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York (FHLBNY) is a privately-owned wholesale bank that helps community lenders in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands advance housing and community growth. The FHLBNY membership is comprised of commercial banks, savings banks, savings and loans, credit unions, insurance companies and community development financial institutions. The FHLBNY is part of the Congressionally-chartered, nationwide Federal Home Loan Bank System, which was created in 1932 to provide a flexible liquidity source for member community lenders engaged in home mortgage and neighborhood lending. The mission of the FHLBNY is to advance housing opportunity and local community development by maximizing the capacity of community-based member lenders to serve their markets. Since the FHLBNY is a secured lender, all of its credit products require real estate related collateral. The FHLBNY enables local lenders to extend affordable credit to their communities. Thanks to the Federal Home Loan Bank System, communities across the country have access to more affordable housing, small business, and community development programs.

The FHLBNY closed out June 2024 with a focus on Puerto Rico. First, on June 26, Alex Sornoza, FHLBNY Vice President, Member Relations and Senior Business Development Officer, provided a presentation on the FHLBank System and the FHLBNY's presence in Puerto Rico at a cooperativa industry conference hosted by Inclusiv, an FHLBNY member. Later that evening, the FHLBNY hosted a Convening with cooperativas in Puerto Rico to exchange ideas and best practices about the cooperativa industry and the benefits of Home Loan Bank membership. The meeting aimed to foster collaboration and learn more about each other's business to determine potential pathways for access to the FHLBank System. FHLBNY representatives included Adam Goldstein, Chief Business Officer, Alex Sornoza, and FHLBNY Independent Directors Melba Acosta and Ángela Weyne. Finally, on June 27, the FHLBNY and the Public Corporation for the Supervision and Insurance of Cooperatives of Puerto Rico (COSSEC) signed an information-sharing agreement to provide access for both the FHLBNY and COSSEC to share confidential underwriting information about the COSSEC-insured cooperativas. This should strengthen our ability to safely facilitate the flow of credit to consumers, families, and small businesses in communities across Puerto Rico.
