Wondering where the FHWA Mobile Asphalt Technology Center (MATC) is wandering to next? FHWA’s state-of-the art mobile lab and engineers are heading to these state transportation departments to demonstrate and support innovative techniques in asphalt construction: WYOMING DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION in July, Wisconsin Department of Transportation in August, and New Jersey Department of Transportation in October. Learn how to bring the MATC trailer to your state or paving project at https://lnkd.in/eE466--q. Watch a video — https://lnkd.in/ea4iFGKa — to see what a visit from the MATC involves.

Summer Reading for Pavement Professionals! The FHWA Mobile Asphalt Technology (MATC) continues to work with transportation agencies and the asphalt community around the country toward longer lasting and more sustainable asphalt pavements. See MATC’s three recent one-pagers about its visit and activities with the North Dakota Department of Transportation, including about NDDOT’s experience with the dielectric profiling system, a tool that gives a picture of asphalt density without boring holes. Last week, FHWA was honored to host the Fourth Senior Executive Transportation and Public Safety Summit. More than 100 #Transportation leaders from #LawEnforcement, #FireAndRescue, #EMS, #PublicWorks, and #Towing industries convened to discuss #ResponderSafety and the future of #TrafficIncidentManagement. “We are the first administration to commit to a true plan—a moonshot—for the Vision Zero Approach,” said FHWA Deputy Administrator Kristin White. “It is your energy, your heart, your talents, the stories you’ve told, and the stories you continue to tell that have shown us that there is a path for us to get to Vision Zero.” FHWA Administrator Shailen Bhatt noted that there are more than “41,000 deaths each year on American roadways—and even 1 death is too many.” He also highlighted the hard work of our first responders, saying that “to the brave men and women who come and respond [to these tragedies], we thank you for everything you do.” “Stats don’t change policies, stories do,” said keynote speaker Congressman Jim McGovern, who introduced the National Move Over Law Resolution in 2022. “[S]urely we can get consensus to move things forward, do things better, and save more lives.” Watch U.S. Department of Transportation executives’ remarks here: https://lnkd.in/eGA8uGgz.

I try not to hug on the job. While I am naturally a hugger, I’ve just found it better to not do it professionally. Which is why I love that this picture shows me hugging my dear friend, and partner in #safety, Carlos Braceras. Carlos has been an amazing leader for the Utah Department of Transportation and it was a perfect place to announce our Saving Lives with Connectivity: Accelerating #v2x Deployment. UDOT is going to partner with WYOMING DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, Colorado Department of Transportation, and the City and County of Denver to create a regional hub. Looking forward to seeing what Amy Ford can do as a partner. This program awards $60 million to UDOT, Arizona Department of Transportation and Maricopa County, along with Texas A&M Transportation Institute and the Texas Department of Transportation to deploy connected #infrastructure. I know that leaders and friends like Jennifer Toth, Marc Williams and Gregory D. Winfree, Esq. will help us push this #technology deployment to save lives, help #transit move more smoothly, and reduce crashes and #ghg emissions. Special thanks as well to USDOT Research and Technology and Dr. Robert C. Hampshire for their partnership and leadership as well. I’d also like to thank our industry partners like AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) and Jim Tymon, Intelligent Transportation Society of America and Laura Demeo Chace, and Steve Kuciemba of ITE for attending, and John Kwant of 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) for attending. Finally, I would like to call on our automotive partners through the Alliance for Automotive Innovation to continue to deploy vehicles that can take advantage of connected #infrastructure so we can achieve our collective goal of #zero deaths on our roadways.
