Join us for a Community Meeting on Tuesday, October 8 at 6:30 pm in the FCS Community Room! We're discussing FCS' work of redeveloping the former Diamond J Mart into Brownsville Pointe, a small mix-used development providing both housing and dining options for the Historic South Atlanta community. We received a Brownfields Cleanup Grant for the site located at 105 McDonough Blvd and invite you to come out to hear our latest updates including the scheduled environmental clean-up efforts, site development logistics, and an updated timeline. Let's come together to explore environmental solutions for our neighborhood! For more details, visit Atlantaga.gov/brownfields

Creating equitable, mixed-income communities where neighbors thrive. Focused on Historic South Atlanta.
About us
Focused Community Strategies (FCS) is a 501c(3) organization that empowers neighborhoods to thrive. We invest deeply in one under-resourced Atlanta neighborhood at a time, building upon the neighborhood’s strengths to create a flourishing community. Neighboring, dignity, and development are at the core of everything that we do. Neighboring: We value local living, believing proximity and diversity allow for mutually transformative relationships. Dignity: We value the gifts and abilities of our neighbors, believing as bearers of the image of God they have inherent capacity and are engaged as full participants in bringing about the flourishing of the neighborhood. Development: We value sustainable strategies, believing that lasting impact requires addressing systemic, economic, and structural barriers to flourishing.

I'm blown away by the number of neighborhoods and organizations who want to use the Flourishing Neighborhood Index, or FNI. At FCS - Focused Community Strategies, we created the FNI because we wanted good data about our work at the neighborhood level. We wanted a tool and a process that centered neighborhood voices and would produce data that the neighborhood owned. It turns out that others were looking for a tool like that, too. Today, FCS is working with 14 neighborhoods to go through the Flourishing Neighborhood Index. It looks like the same number will use it next year, or even more. I'm really humbled to realize that we've created something of value for others who want to see neighbors flourish.
At FCS, have a set of indicators that tell us whether neighbors are flourishing economically: 💼 Local Employment Rates: Can residents find jobs within their community? 🏠 Housing Stability: How affordable and secure is housing for long-term residents? 🛍️ Small Business Vitality: Are local businesses thriving and contributing to the neighborhood economy? 🏦 Access to Financial Institutions: Can residents easily access banking and financial services? Explore the span of indicators captured by our Flourishing Neighborhood Index and learn how they can help build stronger, more resilient communities. At FCS, we’ve been talking with neighbors about co-creating opportunities for economic vitality, focusing on workforce development. Over the past decade, we’ve created local jobs, primarily through Carver Market and Community Grounds, helping employees gain valuable skills and experience. Now, we want to ensure talent stays in our neighborhoods by addressing barriers like childcare, transportation, and housing, and fostering local business growth. Want to learn more about these efforts and how we’re working to boost economic vitality? Visit our blog to dive deeper into the conversation: https://lnkd.in/en82ekzh
