  • Did you know that the 1991 film “The Silence of the Lambs” inspired a generation of women to join the FBI? Though the Bureau’s special agents often work behind the scenes due to the sensitive nature of our mission, Hollywood has provided audiences with role models like the lead Clarice Starling. This iconic character, representing an FBI trainee, showcased the strength, intelligence, and dedication of female agents, motivating many women to pursue a career with the Bureau. But what does it really take to become an FBI special agent? The Special Agent Selection System is not a one-and-done application. It is a rigorous process that involves comprehensive testing to evaluate your ability to perform mission-critical work and safeguard communities across America. The selection process includes a writing assessment, a structured interview, a physical fitness assessment, and more. Once you’ve received your final job offer, you must graduate from the 18-week basic field training course at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. For more than 50 years, the FBI’s women special agents have not only completed this rewarding experience, but have also continued to serve as trailblazers, role models, and change-makers within their communities. You could be the next to join their ranks.
