In business divorce lawsuits, accountants can often defend themselves against liability claims. However, the question arises about the liability of bookkeepers. Frank McRoberts discusses in this week’s New York Business Divorce blog whether a bookkeeper is considered a fiduciary to a business entity when an accountant is not. We proud to support Ryan C. Hild in his efforts to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night event on Oct. 19th, 2024. Please see below for more information and to register!
Please join me, my family, friends and colleagues at Farrell Fritz, P.C. as we “Light the Night” with the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at Eisenhower Park on October 19, 2024, for a charity walk in honor of my dear friend Penelope “Penny” Wood and all of those who have been touched by blood cancer. I am honored that Penny’s Father, Adam Wood, asked me to take on the role of fundraising for the LLS’s Executive Challenge, and I heartfully ask for your support as I fundraise and walk in support of Penny and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission - a world without blood cancer. I am so proud to say that I am friends with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s 2024 Honored Hero: Penny Wood. At just 10 years old, Penny has exhibited more strength and character than anyone that I have ever met. As she currently undergoes treatment for the maintenance phase of B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, she continues to excel at school and sports, all while maintaining a social calendar that would rival a royal dignitary. Penny doesn’t just “Light the Night,” she “lights the lives” of her family, teachers, and countless friends with her exuberance and engaging personality. In honor of Penny’s incredibly honorable fight against Leukemia, I ask that you join my family, friends and colleagues, as we “Light the Night” at Eisenhower Park on October 19, or that you help me impact the lives of blood cancer patients like Penny by donating to my fundraiser at the following website: https://lnkd.in/dcm_D6ai #leukemialymphomasociety #lightthenight #fundraising

As previously reported here on Tax Tracker in June, the School Tax Relief (STAR) program offered by New York State offers property tax relief to eligible homeowners. Now, we have a number to associate with it for 2024 - $2.3 billion as recently announced by Governor Hochul. See link: https://lnkd.in/ey8sKtQk Approximately 2 million New Yorkers have already received the tax relief benefit this year so far, with 1 million more expected to receive the same in the coming weeks. The benefit is set to be delivered around the time the school tax bill is issued. A breakdown of this year’s total $2.3 billion STAR benefits and nearly 3 million recipients by region is seen in the comments below. Eligible homeowners on Long Island can sign up for direct deposit before their STAR credits are issued by following the instructions provided here: https://lnkd.in/ezb7zP2B New York State continues to fund the STAR program which has proven to become a reliable benefit to eligible homeowners. See Tax Tracker post for STAR information basics – https://lnkd.in/ef9Z5xVN Thank you Nancy DeBiasi Gillen for this week's Tax Tracker! #taxtracker #nystarprogram #propertytax

The "good-guy guaranty" is a commonly used form of security in commercial leasing. Despite appearing straightforward, the fundamentals of a good-guy guaranty are often misunderstood, and failing to understand the implications may result in unintended consequences. In this week’s NY Land Use and Zoning blog, Damian Racanelli explains the details of good-guy guaranties and what every landlord and tenant should know. Earlier this year, the Albany County Supreme Court struck down New York City's foie gras ban, siding with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, which determined that the ban unfairly restricted farming operations in Sullivan County. In his recent article published in the New York Law Journal, John Armentano discusses this case, highlighting the significant legal conflict between New York State and New York City.
