Mapping Mondays: 3D Insights into Graphite Anodes Today's Mapping Monday post showcases how you can transform the Massbox's elemental maps into stunning 3D visuals. 📊✨ In our featured example, the Massbox meticulously analyzed five layers of a graphite anode, covering a substantial area of 1500 microns by 1500 microns using a precise 50-micron spot size. This detailed scan revealed intriguing metallic hot spots embedded within the carbon matrix. 🟢 Vanadium (V) is highlighted in green 🔴 Titanium (Ti) appears in red 🔵 Aluminum (Al) is marked in blue. These hot spots, ranging between 100-200 microns, likely represent contaminant metallic particles. Identifying and understanding the origins of these particles is crucial for battery manufacturers aiming to enhance product quality and performance. A huge shout-out to Mike Marsh and Luke Hunter for their expert assistance in bringing the Massbox data to life with Dragonfly. 🙌 #MappingMondays #Massbox #3DMapping #GraphiteAnode #BatteryTech #MaterialScience #ElementalMapping #Dragonfly #ExumInstruments

Mapping Mondays: Unveiling Lithium Distribution in Cycled Anodes 🔋 What happens to lithium in battery anodes after cycles of charging and discharging? This question is pivotal for developers, especially those working with innovative silicon anode chemistries. In a recent study, we utilized the Massbox to investigate the lithium (Li) distribution in two anodes cycled at different rates. Here’s what we found... -High Li Concentrations: Both anodes displayed regions of high lithium accumulation after discharge. -Charge Rate Impact: The anode cycled at a faster rate showed significantly larger lithium accumulations, with a notable decrease in silicon (Si) concentrations compared to the slower-cycled anode. Understanding these lithium accumulations is crucial as they could lead to lithium plating or other detrimental failure mechanisms. Characterizing these areas accurately is essential for enhancing battery performance, capacity, and overall lifespan. 👉 Dive deeper into our findings and explore how the Massbox is revolutionizing battery material analysis: https://lnkd.in/gfabQ4Ht #MappingMondays #ExumInstruments #BatteryTechnology #LithiumIon #SiliconAnodes #Massbox #MaterialScience #Innovation
