Texas saw record enrollment growth in both new and returning customers on the Affordable Care Act Marketplace this year. Texans overwhelmingly used Healthcare.gov to compare plans and find the best price and fit for their health care needs. State and federal funding is necessary to continue to support this progress. Comprehensive health insurance is expensive and health care costs are high — especially when accounting for high inflation. Congress must reauthorize the subsidies that make APTCs and other CSRs more broadly available in order to ensure people can afford coverage. Read more: https://lnkd.in/g3HP7icb

We believe all Texans are worth a job that honors their dignity, humanity, and creativity. We are proud to live this value internally by kicking off our annual Week of Rest today through July 9. Rest boosts clarity, creativity, and drive; it enables us to do our best work; and it helps avoid burnout. It is not a reward to be earned, but rather an essential component of healing and sustainability. We look forward to returning on July 10 with renewed passion and grit. The latest demographic data underscores how critical it is that every Texan is able to thrive regardless of race, income, or zip code. As our state becomes increasingly more diverse, our policies and institutions must meet the moment.
"“Our state is a younger state than the rest of the nation, and our Hispanic population also is a younger group...” said Coda Rayo-Garza, research and data director at Every Texan, an advocacy and research group." Texas has a tremendous opportunity to leverage its growing diversity for economic and social advancement. In 2023, Texas led the nation in attracting new Hispanic, Asian, and Black residents, with significant population gains in Houston and Dallas. We must focus on creating equitable opportunities in education, healthcare, and employment to harness the full potential of our diverse population and build a more inclusive and prosperous Texas for all. Alarming declines in math and reading proficiency among Texas kids highlight the urgent need for action. The 2024 Annie E. Casey Kids Count Data Book ranks Texas 43rd in the nation for child wellbeing, a similar trend as Texas has consistently ranked poorly year after year. This year the AECF included data on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and their impact on academic success. In Texas, Black children experience ACE at a much higher rate than the national rate (49.2% versus 29.1%). 🔍 Dive into the details and learn more about the findings here: https://lnkd.in/g73HW4GP

What is Texas doing to improve child well-being? Our partner Annie E. Casey Foundation recently released the 2024 KIDS COUNT Data Book, which uses national and state data across four domains — economic well-being, education, health and family and community — to assess how each state is working for kids. In Texas, our diversity is our strength, and our infrastructure should support that. Across the state, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders can't access critical services like health care and voting because materials are not available in their native languages. We are grateful for the work of organizations like Woori Juntos for brining awareness and seeking solutions to improve language access for Texans. #AANHPImonth #AAPImonth

Texas mothers deserve access to dignified jobs that support both their families and full participation in the workforce. This includes affordable child care, flexible work arrangements, and family leave policies. By addressing the needs of parents, Texas can ensure that women have the support necessary to fully participate in the workforce, which in turn will drive economic growth, reduce poverty rates, and foster a more equitable economy for all. #txlege https://lnkd.in/gHxBXXqA

Asian Americans are the fastest-growing population in Texas. The history of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) in Texas began in the 1840s, when Francisco Flores, a Filipino fisherman, became the first Asian to immigrate to Texas on a Spanish ship. Since then, the vast diversity of AANHPI communities has become a fixture of Texas. Unfortunately, many federal and state agencies reporting data overlook this diversity, making it challenging for policymakers and community leaders to ensure adequate support. As we celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month, we call for improved data collection that recognizes the different cultures and lived experiences within AANHPI communities. #AANHPIMonth
