About us

Everland represents the world’s largest portfolio of high-impact, forest conservation (REDD ) projects that protect wildlife and enhance the well-being of forest communities. The company brings together forest communities and corporations in a common cause to protect some of the world’s most important and vulnerable forests. REDD is an acronym for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, a UN-envisioned climate change mitigation strategy. When REDD projects prove they have successfully stopped deforestation, they generate Verified Emission Reductions (VERs, aka offsets or carbon credits) that can be sold to corporations who want to voluntarily offset their unavoidable emissions by supporting verified projects that stop forests from burning while delivering meaningful social and biodiversity co-benefits.

Wonderful to see Wildlife Works recently host Eve BAZAIBA MASUDI, the Minister of Environment for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, at the Mai Ndombe REDD Project. On July 8th, Minister Bazaiba visited Inongo to witness the positive impact of the Mai Ndombe REDD Project’s initiatives. She inaugurated essential social infrastructures developed by ERA #Congo, including a health center in Ibali village and a school in Inunu. Minister Bazaiba said, “It is in such conditions that students can study. And it's better thanks to the conservation of the forest which gives us carbon credit funds in exchange. These funds allow us to carry out social work such as schools, health structures, agriculture and even employment…This is what we are going to duplicate in the other forest provinces. These provinces can no longer be considered poor because they are humanity's solution to the climate crisis.” 👏 The Mai Ndombe REDD Project exemplifies how forest communities can opt for conservation to fund their sustainable development. We are inspired by Minister Bazaiba's vision to replicate this model across other forest provinces in the DRC. 🌳 Read more about this impactful visit and the ongoing work at the Mai Ndombe REDD Project: https://lnkd.in/gd9Vc-rh

Wildlife Works is deeply honored to have hosted Eve BAZAIBA MASUDI, the Minister of Environment for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, at the Mai Ndombe REDD Project. On July 8th, Minister Bazaiba visited the territory of Inongo to see firsthand the positive impact of the Mai Ndombe REDD Project’s initiatives. She inaugurated vital social infrastructures developed by our subsidiary, ERA Congo, including a health center in Ibali village and a school in Inunu. After visiting the new school in Inunu, Minister Bazaiba declared, “It is in such conditions that students can study. And it's better thanks to the conservation of the forest which gives us carbon credit funds in exchange. These funds allow us to carry out social work such as schools, health structures, agriculture and even employment [...] This is what we are going to duplicate in the other forest provinces. These provinces can no longer be considered poor because they are humanity's solution to the climate crisis.” The Mai Ndombe REDD Project is a clear example of how forest communities can choose conservation to fund their self-determined sustainable development. As we continue our mission, we are encouraged by Minister Bazaiba's vision to replicate this model in other forest provinces. The IUCN's Red List of Ecosystems and partners first global assessment for measuring the health of ecosystems revealed that over 50% of the world's mangroves are at risk of collapse by 2050. The project area of the ACAPA -Bajo Mira y Frontera REDD Project in Colombia is home to a vast expanse of mangrove forests including a protected area established in 2017 called Cabo Manglares. Revenue from #carboncredits supports this community-managed REDD project to continue protecting this vital ecosystem which: 🐠 Serves as nursery grounds for a diverse array of marine species. 🌍 Plays a pivotal role in carbon sequestration and mitigating climate change, while also offering coastal protection against erosion and storm surges. 💧 Enhances water quality, supports sustainable resource use, and contributes to local livelihoods and cultural practices. Beto Borges recently discussed Brazil's deforestation reduction strategies with André Lima, Brazil’s Secretary for Controlling Deforestation and Controlling Territorial Ordinance within the Ministry of Environment. Here are some highlights from the conversation: 1. Deforestation Reduction Achievements: 🟩 Amazon: A significant 22% reduction in deforestation rates from August 2022 to July 2023, followed by a 55% reduction from August 2023 to April 2024. 🟩 Challenges in the Cerrado: A 27% increase in deforestation in the Cerrado biome, highlighting the need for focused efforts. 2. Impact of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR): 🟩 The EUDR, set to take effect at the end of this year, aims to eliminate deforestation from supply chains of agricultural products entering the EU. 🟩 The EUDR can complement Brazil’s efforts by shifting economic incentives and enhancing supply chain transparency. 3. Supporting Smallholders: 🟩 The “Union with Municipalities to Reduce Deforestation and Forest Fires in the Amazon” program provides funding, technical assistance, and sustainable livelihood support to local municipalities in exchange for reducing deforestation rates. 4. Global Collaboration: 🟩 Emphasis on the importance of international investments and cooperation to achieve zero deforestation and meet global climate goals. 🔗 Read the full article for more details on the conversation and Brazil’s strategies: https://lnkd.in/eY64_E5k #Deforestation #EUDR  #Brazil #Forests

📢📄 There's a new research paper led by scientists at Wildlife Works Emily Dangremond, Will Gochberg, Ph.D.Jeremy Freund, Mike Korchinsky and co-authored by Maren Pauly our Director of Evaluation and Research. Nature Portfolio’s Journal, Scientific Reports, recently published our collaborative research paper, which introduces the Baseline Allocation for Assessed Risk (BAAR) Method - a novel approach to map deforestation risk and to allocate baselines for REDD projects using risk-of-deforestation levels that balances statistical accuracy with climate policy goals.   In our latest blog, Maren takes us through her top takeaways from the study including: 1. The Essence of REDD Projects and Baselines 2. The Need for Standardized Baseline Calculations 3. Introduction of the Baseline Allocation for Assessed Risk (BAAR) Method 4. Enhancing REDD Project Effectiveness Forest conservation and restoration can provide more than one quarter of the emissions reductions needed to stabilize the climate. Therefore, implementation of high quality forest conservation REDD projects is a crucial solution in the fight against climate change.   However, the reasonableness of REDD project baseline scenarios has been a topic under much debate. That’s why transparent, reproducible methods like BAAR offer a clearer picture of project impacts and provide a solid foundation for investment decisions. At Everland, we are deeply committed to environmental conservation, which is reflected in this work. Read more ➡ https://lnkd.in/e6Mq5G3q #forestconservation #carboncredits

The Euros aren’t just about competition; they’re about bringing communities together. ⚽ 🤝 Similarly, REDD projects leverage football's power to unite, inspire, and educate the next generation on environmental conservation. At the Wildlife Works Kasigau Corridor REDD Project in Kenya, the universal love of football is used to foster dynamic thinking about environmental conservation. Football matches between Wildlife Works staff, including rangers, and the local community promote harmony and build collaborative relationships. These games serve as a platform for exchanging information, raising awareness about wildlife and environmental protection, enhancing community relations, and improving collaboration in managing human-wildlife conflict, promoting sustainability as a shared goal.
