The Solar Policy Scoop for July 2024, authored by Kelsey Misbrener, highlights significant legislative and research developments in the U.S. solar energy sector. ☀️ In New York, agrivoltaics is expanding due to government funding. Rhode Island's Governor Daniel McKee signed the 2024 Energy Storage Systems Act, targeting 90 MW of energy storage by 2026. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) allocated $9.5 million for projects studying public attitudes towards large-scale solar siting. The IRS released final rules under the #InflationReductionAct, promoting project labor agreements. New York State Energy Research and Development Authority announced $5 million for agrivoltaic projects, and the New York Solar Energy Industries Association urged Governor Kathy Hochul to double the state's distributed solar goal to 20 GW by 2035. In Massachusetts, senators approved SB 2829 to streamline solar permitting and advance renewable energy goals. These updates reflect ongoing policy support and innovation driving solar energy growth! #SolarEnergy #IndustryGrowth #Policy #EnergyStorage #CommunitySolar #Agrivoltaics ‼️Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/gj6YFuFF

Our talented Architectural Design Manager, Shannon McCaddon, recently created a stunning depiction of one of our projects in Virginia! 🌟 Shannon shares, “This concept illustration for the proposed Enon Road Community Solar Farm in Virginia uses watercolor brushes, created by hand with Procreate and the Apple Pencil. Though the project wouldn't be seen from this aerial angle, this perspective helps contextualize the solar farm and how it fits into the surrounding community. As solar is a temporary land use, it preserves the soil from more permanent developments. When done well, it can act as a haven for pollinators, small wildlife, and birds. In my illustrations, I hope to show how solar is a good neighbor to people and nature.” #SolarEnergy #CommunitySolar #SustainableDesign #SolarFarm #ProcreateArt #WatercolorArt #RenewableEnergy

Michigan lawmakers are considering a #communitysolar initiative to expand access to solar power and reduce electricity costs. ☀️ The plan would regulate community solar programs, allowing residents without their own panels to subscribe and benefit from clean energy at a reduced rate. This would potentially save households about $100 annually. With half of U.S. properties unable to host solar panels, this initiative aims to make renewable energy accessible to diverse property owners, including those in urban, suburban, and rural areas.🏠 Nick Occhipinti of the League of Conservation Voters supports the plan for its inclusivity and efficient land use. The initiative has bipartisan backing, with lawmakers like State Sen. Ed McBroom. It was discussed in a Senate committee last month and may see further deliberation later this year! ‼️Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/egj3fAE5 #SolarEnergy #CleanEnergy #Michigan #Lawmaking #CommunitySolar

Are you ready for this? The US is taking a leading role in boosting our country's environmental sustainability. Despite delays in launching the updated SEC rules, many states are enforcing their own emissions reduction regulations. New laws and regulations at both state and federal levels are expected to create mandatory requirements for thousands of companies to provide climate-related reporting. As federal actions face challenges, individual states are stepping in to play a significant role. This article highlights the current requirements for California, Illinois, and New York but there are other states to note. For example, Washington has implemented the Clean Air Rule, which includes penalties for organizations that do not meet emissions reduction requirements. This could result in significant fines for your organization. Additionally, the proposed Federal Supplier Climate Risks and Resilience Rules would require contractor emission reporting and for larger contractors to set science-based emissions reduction targets. Even though these rules are not yet finalized, this move towards enforcing emissions reporting and reduction is expected to continue. With all that being said... How are you future-proofing your business? Have you developed a roadmap to decarbonize your portfolio? What actions are you taking to avoid violating emission regulations? 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ei6qMWpg #Sustainability #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalRegulation #EmissionsReduction #Decarbonization

Solar Grazing workshop with White Oak Pastures and the Center for Agricultural Resilience (CFAR) ♻ ☀ *watch the video* I had the great opportunity thanks to ESA to attend a 3-day workshop to learn about #solargrazing and dive deeper into #regenerativeagriculture. Learning from Will Harriss from his book, his podcasts with Joe Rogan, and now in person is truly an honor to be exposed to individuals who live true to their #values It was a profound experience to see operational large-scale utility solar (120MW 80MW 20MW) facilities firsthand and to learn about the deep correlation between soil health and the vegetation management practices we decided to implement in our projects. There is a way to bring back organic matter into the soil, remove herbicide utilization, increase our soil's value, and add more value to the projects and the surrounding communities. #Duallanduse like sheep grazing is good for the soil and more effective in long-term vegetation management as the soil increases its ability to hold in water and sequester #carbon. Let's not forget that it is also a more humane way of raising livestock in these pastures and increasing our #USgrown meat supply. This is a scalable practice with a defined set of constraints that can be implemented in projects that meet that framework. I will continue to share my journey as I learn how Solar Generators can be good stewards of the land. Ask me anything! #SDG #ESASolar #solargrazing #agrivoltaics #landstewardship #saveoursoil #utilitysolar #communitysolar #photovoltaics #landmanagement #livestock #regenerativeagriculture cc: Justin Vandenbroeck Sabrina Diniz Emily Kobylarczyk (thanks for enabling this and being great sidekicks in this journey)

Sustainability isn’t just a buzz word anymore. René Demers from National Bank of Canada emphasizes the risks of non-green real estate becoming obsolete due to stricter regulations and higher demand for sustainable properties. The bank has committed to green financing, exceeding its green loan targets in 2023.🎯 It also advocates for both new constructions and retrofits of existing buildings to meet #netzero emissions goals. Despite challenges in retrofitting, the bank sees significant opportunities for #energyefficiency improvements. The shift toward green building is driven by both regulatory pressures and the financial benefits of lower energy costs and higher rental premiums. National Bank supports this shift through financing incentives and aims to lead in the transition to a low-carbon economy. ‼️Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/gan3DscE
