Brain Health refers to the physical and functional well-being of the brain! 🧠 So how does this apply to workplaces? HKS, Inc. and Center for BrainHealth recently completed a study on how to achieve a brain-healthy workplace. A #BrainHealthyWorkplace supports mental well-being and cognitive function by creating spaces and practices that enhance focus, reduce stress, encourage social connections, and promote innovation. Here are some insights: → 🎯 Focus is Crucial: Offices need spaces for both teamwork and focused work. Good acoustics and environmental control are key. → 🚫 Avoid Multitasking: Multitasking reduces effectiveness and increases burnout. → 🛋️ Use Varied Workspaces: Using different spaces for different tasks can boost satisfaction and innovation. → ⏳ Time Boosts Efficiency: Familiarity with workspaces increases task satisfaction over time. → 🤝 In-Person Interaction Matters: Being together boosts team connection and informal knowledge sharing. → 🏢 Build Community: Hybrid work requires ongoing efforts to maintain strong interpersonal relationships. Today we bid a fond farewell to Gary Michon as he retires from his role as Willis Tower's General Manager. He has been a cornerstone of Willis Tower since 2009, leading the customer experience for over 100 office, retail, and broadcast tenants, as well as 1M Skydeck visitors every year! He led a diverse team of nearly 400 professionals—including security personnel, janitorial, engineers, tradespeople, and industry partners—with enthusiasm and professionalism. Gary played a key role in Willis Tower’s $500 million Street-to-Sky repositioning—the most significant transformation in the building’s history, and under his leadership, Willis Tower achieved LEED Platinum certification, making Willis Tower the largest LEED Platinum building in the U.S. In addition to his work at Willis Tower, Gary serves on the Board of Directors for Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) Chicago and actively participates in the Labor and Nomination Committees. Fostering a resilient workplace is more crucial than ever in today's evolving work environment. So, what is a #ResilientWorkplace? According to Steelcase, it’s a flexible, adaptable environment that meets changing needs, optimizes space and boosts employee engagement. Elise Cuneo of Unispace shares three key strategies to foster a more resilient workplace: 1️⃣ Flexible, Tech-Enabled Design: Tailor your office spaces with adaptable layouts and technology to meet diverse and changing employee needs. 2️⃣ Inclusive and Equitable Spaces: Design with inclusivity to accommodate the diverse needs of your workforce, creating a sense of belonging and pride. 3️⃣ Community and Culture Activation: Use thoughtful design to foster community and connection. Multi-use areas and integrated technology enhance collaboration and productivity for both in-office and remote employees. Thoughtful design fosters a sense of belonging and purpose, transforming the office into a platform for connection and productivity. By embedding these principles, companies can create ecosystems that empower and inspire their workforce to thrive. 🌟 Further reading: https://bit.ly/32T2qp5 https://bit.ly/3XcfHZd #EQOffice #WorkplaceDesign #OfficeDesign

In honor of International Women in Engineering Day approaching on June 23, we'd like to recognize two trailblazers on Willis Tower's engineering team, Engineer Marie Santacaterina and Trainee Madeline Tito. Marie and Madeline are essential in building operations and advancing energy-efficient technology, handling everything from equipment repairs to building system updates to tenant-facing needs. Together, they define being a trailblazer as "anyone willing to take risks in a field where they know they are a minority. This demonstrates courage and perseverance; a trailblazer is striving for excellence vs. accepting the status quo. Having pride in not just yourself but also the industry you work in." We aim to elevate opportunities for women in historically underrepresented roles and are proud of the paths Marie and Madeline have paved at Willis Tower. #WillisTower #EQOffice #WomenInEngineering #INWED24

Today for #NationalBestFriendDay, we want to celebrate all of our #workbesties for being there for us each day! Studies by Gallup have shown that having a best friend at work is highly beneficial for both employees and employers. Employees who have a best friend at work are significantly more likely to: → Engage customers and internal partners → Get more done in less time → Support a safe workplace with fewer accidents and reliability concerns → Innovate and share ideas → Have fun while at work In addition, BetterUp found that those who feel connected to their colleagues at work experience 91% greater personal growth and 101% greater professional growth. Though there have been fewer opportunities to create and build connections at work in recent post-pandemic years, Bill Sebra, in a recent Korn Ferry article, says that the decline in work friendships is an important but overlooked trend that could have significant financial and talent repercussions for companies. So, tag your #workbestie and share your gratitude for having someone you can lean on! Further reading: https://bit.ly/3XHbKbS https://bit.ly/3x3ZdaW #EQOffice #EmployeeEngagement #WorkHardHaveFun
