About us
The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago is a not-for-profit that serves 44 counties in the Chicagoland area, providing case management, advocacy, education, outreach and signature programs to people with epilepsy, their families, and communities. We are dedicated to supporting the 130,000 people living with epilepsy in our service area, as well as educating the general public about the disorder. Epilepsy is far more common than people think, yet it is often the least understood. The mission of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago is to lead the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago is pleased to host its first Ammon’s Horn Meeting on Wednesday, August 14th at 6pm at The Gage Restaurant, in the Theodore Ascher Room and Bar on the lower level. This event is being led by Ayesha Akhtar, VP Health Equity, Education & Advocacy, hosting Dr. Peter Warnke, Neurosurgeon at UC Medicine and Dr. Joshua Rosenow, Neurosurgeon at Northwestern Medicine. At this Ammon’s Horn meeting, Dr. Peter Warnke will present a case on hippocampal epilepsy and specifically laser ablation, which is now a first-line treatment. By including all epilepsy professionals in the community, local neurologists are granted the opportunity to learn and meet individual physicians from local epilepsy centers and learn about treatments that can positively impact their patients. Epilepsy specialists from the Chicago area and general community neurologists, as well as nurses, researchers and pharmacists from the Chicago area are welcome to attend this meeting. Space is limited, RSVP today.

It's important to honor the uniqueness of each person in the disability community. Since 1990, when the ADA was signed into law, July has been marked as #DisabilityPrideMonth. The ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities. Interesting fact: the primary sponsor of the ADA, former US Representative Tony Coelho, was driven to protect the rights of people with disabilities based on his own experience as a person living with #epilepsy. #EpilepsyChicago
