Edelman Fossil Park & Museum of Rowan University has been recognized as a finalist in the Sustainability category of Fast Company's #InnovationbyDesignAwards. The team of Ennead Architects (Design Architect), KSS Architects (Architect of Record), and G&A (Exhibit Design) have developed an innovative and integrated design experience. Inspired by the core themes of preservation, exploration, and education, the Edelman Fossil Park and Museum of Rowan University is a one-of-a-kind active fossil dig site that offers visitors the unique opportunity for hands-on discovery at a remarkable site of scientific wonder. One of the project’s primary goals is to utilize the story of the mass extinction of the dinosaurs to encourage our era’s environmental stewardship through both education and demonstration of high-performance sustainability through the building. Jefferson Health's Honickman Center has been featured in Healthcare Design Magazine. The article discusses how the #LEED Gold-certified ambulatory #healthcare center is designed to integrate with the community it serves. “We see healthcare facilities as trusted civic institutions, not unlike libraries or museums,” says Thomas Wong, partner at Ennead Architects. “Healthcare projects must participate in the city, both in the skyline and at the street level and everything in between, to welcome and engage the community by providing an elevated experience that enhances the delivery of care.” “We wanted to create a design with a highly tactile quality that feels soft, welcoming, and caring,” Jarrett Pelletier, Ennead Principal says. “For example, the elevator cores are clad in etched glass that is grazed with soft light.” Similarly, extruded metal walls and sculpted bamboo pods in the patient lounge on the second floor provide more of that “tactile quality with a handmade touch.” Read the full article at the link below. https://lnkd.in/eYEdGYar To hear from Jefferson Health about the impact the Honickman Center has had on the community and day-to-day practice, watch the interview with Dr. Catriona Harrop, MD, SFHM, FACP, associate chief physician executive at Jefferson Health, below. On June 28th, Chargé d’Affaires Kimberly R. Furnish, OBO Principal Deputy Director J. Douglas Dykhouse, U.S. Northern Command Brigadier General Maurizio Calabrese, U.S. Mission personnel, and Bahamian officials, gathered during the Embassy Nassau’s July 4th celebration to recognize the near completion of the new U.S. Embassy Nassau in the Bahamas with a ribbon cutting ceremony. PDD Dykhouse remarked, "This new U.S. Embassy Nassau is the United States’ physical commitment to the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and to the Caribbean region. From the construction contract signing in December of 2018 to a groundbreaking in October of 2019 and to the Topping Out Ceremony in July of 2021, we have worked through Hurricane Dorian and the COVID pandemic to get where we are today. This efficient and sustainable embassy will enable diplomacy. This is what providing the most effective facilities for U.S. diplomacy looks like." The Delacorte Theater in Central Park is undergoing a revitalization this summer, preparing for more decades of free Shakespeare for New Yorkers. The design includes bigger seats, more accessibility for audiences and staff, and even air conditioning for the dressing rooms. The project aims to make performances more comfortable for those putting on the show, and those watching it. Take a look at this video from NY1 News that shows the site in progress. Ennead Principal David Tepper was recently a guest on the Buildings 2.0 podcast. The episode explores the evolving landscape of architecture and the profound impact of AI and other emerging technologies on the future of design and architectural training. "I think to some extent, AI (Artificial Intelligence) is coming for our industry. Like a lot of technologies, it will replace some of the grunt work at the bottom and allow us to bring value at a higher level, so we'll be spending less time drawing details, especially repetitive details, and more time strategizing how to deliver the project." David also addresses Ennead's unique design process. "One of the things we think distinguishes Ennead is that we have a bespoke process with each of our clients. If you look at our buildings, they ultimately don't look alike. You can't necessarily look at them and say 'That's an Ennead building' because we develop them through a process that we design with our clients. Each design problem is a unique process tailored to the particular needs of that client, and the buildings that emerge out of that partnership are very much attuned to the particular identity of that client, the particular program or mission, and the particular context that the building is in. So, that leads to a lot of diversity in the office and a lot of different ways of doing things..." Since the announcement of the Ennead Architects Dattner Architects design team in March, @Science Park and Research Campus (SPARC) Kips Bay has been featured in the press and was the subject of an in-office educational event. SPARC, a project for the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), will be a first-of-its-kind job and education center in the heart of New York City that in total will include up to two million square feet for educational programs, workforce development, and job opportunities in the life sciences, public health, and healthcare sectors. Architectural Record included SPARC in an article on circular construction, the practice of reusing, adapting, and rebuilding existing buildings and building materials to use them as long as possible and avoid materials ending up as waste. The article discusses the NYCEDC's dedication to the concept. "The guidelines are ambitious and aim for a 50 percent reduction in embodied carbon, largely through circular practices, such as reducing construction, and deconstruction material for disposal, by 75 percent; reusing or recycling 95 percent of concrete and soil generated by either construction or deconstruction for highest-use value; and for 25 percent of all virgin materials used to be low-carbon, such as mass timber. The goal, according to NYCEDC’s chief strategy officer Cecilia Kushner, AICP, is not only to support New York’s green transition, but to harness the economic heft of the NYCEDC to engender a larger market of circular construction for private actors across the city." Find the article at the link below https://lnkd.in/e7HWa-HH. SPARC was also recently covered in an article on Archinect, that shared some preliminary images, and a quote from Ennead Partner Thomas Wong. “We bring a commitment to civic space, along with deep experience creating leading healthcare and education facilities to our work for SPARC Kips Bay, where, together with Dattner, we will develop an innovative design that is commensurate with the quality and ambition of the education and research facilities that will have a new home there. The environments we create, both inside and out, will be crafted to bring people together and will be shaped by a shared commitment to the future of caregiving." Find the article at the link below. https://lnkd.in/e7HWa-HH This week, Ennead had the opportunity to host architecture students from the Art and Design High School who presented their senior capstone designs for SPARC Kips Bay. We were joined by Councilman Keith Powers, Manhattan Community Board 6 chairwoman Sandy McKee, and representatives from NYCEDC. See photos from the event below.
