🔍EnerNex is excited to attend the IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting and EMTP® International User Conference🔎 Here’s a deep dive into the presentation that Muhammad Humayun is presenting at EMTP:    🌟 Sustained Overvoltage due to Zero Sequence Resonance for Shunt Compensated #Transmission Lines, 7/26, 11:00AM-11:40AM.      Shunt compensation reactors, used in long AC transmission lines, mitigate overvoltages from capacitive charging under light loads. However, they can cause operational challenges like sustained overvoltages due to zero sequence resonance in unbalanced conditions, often from circuit breaker malfunctions causing one- or two-phase disconnections. This resonance occurs between shunt reactors and phase capacitance in disconnected phases, potentially damaging equipment. Muhammad’s presentation will cover:  ▪ Zero Sequence Resonance: Background and resulting overvoltages.  ▪ Case Study: Example from a large US wind project.  ▪ EMTP Simulations: Investigating resonance in shunt compensated lines.  ▪ Mitigation Measures: Including neutral grounding reactors and protection schemes.    #EnergyManagement #DemandResponse #EnerNex #RenewableEnergy #EMTP #IEEEPES #PowerEngineering

🔍EnerNex is excited to attend the IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting🔎 Here’s a deep dive into the panel that Jens Schoene is chairing: 🌟Distribution System State Estimation from Utility Perspective: Practical Challenges, Solutions, and Benefits. 7/25, 8:00 AM-10:00 AM, Room 439🌟 A Distribution System State Estimator (DSSE) provides situational awareness to operators and Smart Grid applications. These applications include: Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration (FLISR) ▪ Circuit Re-Configuration ▪ Volt-Var Optimization (VVO) ▪ Optimal #PowerFlow (OPF) ▪ Circuit-phase and topology identifications Many electrical utilities are in the process of implementing DSSE and #SmartGrid applications as part of their grid modernization effort to improve reliability and asset utilization, avoid problems caused by Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), and predict load response to market or other signals. This panel reports on utilities’ experiences with these #GridModernization efforts, focusing on the successes and challenges with integrating DSSE in operational tools to support Smart Grid applications. #PowerQuality #EnerNex #RenewableEnergy #IEEEPES #PowerEngineering

While traditional maintenance approaches focus on asset preservation and reliability, Performance Focused Maintenance (PFM) seeks to establish maintenance targets that match strategic service-level requirements towards reaching an organization’s business goals. This holistic approach is taken to overcome some of the existing shortcomings of maintenance approaches. 2/3    ✅Questions to assess a utility’s capability level to maintain #resiliency and diagnose your current state of preparedness.    🔲Does the utility have an establishment of a comprehensive maintenance plan that leverages one or several of the maintenance optimization models that most effectively match functional needs to budget constraints?  🔲Does the utility regularly execute actions associated with a comprehensive maintenance plan that is broadly accepted and implemented across the utility at an enterprise level?  🔲Does the utility regularly review comprehensive maintenance plans to refine and update maintenance practices and actions?    There are several steps that can be proactively taken to strengthen a utility's resiliency maintenance. GridWise Architecture Council (GWAC) has just released an architectural guide focused on preparing for the future needs and additions of our electric grid. Thanks to our own Aaron Snyder and the #GWAC team for their contributions to this effort.

The GridWise Architecture Council just released "A Practical Introduction to Commong Grid Architecture Techniques. This paper is the definitive introduction to grid architecture and how it can be used for the important work of grid transformation. As we move from our current centralized system to a decentralized system the concepts and techniques of grid architecture are more important than ever if we want to get to a decarbonized energy system. The council wants to thank Seemita Pal of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for leading the effort in making this important paper focused on helping electric grid stakeholders, including legislators, regulators, academics, industry, and utilities, understand the important systematic approach to grid transformation that grid architecture techniques represent. Taking a grid architecture approach helps relieve crucial constraints on new capabilities and limit unintended effects and reinforce desirable grid characteristics while simplifying design and implementation decisions. The report can be found at https://lnkd.in/ez7r2RbA Also, please join us at RE while we join the Smart Electric Power Alliance when we have the Grid Wise Architecture Council Symposium 2024 titled Grid Transformation: Building the Energy Future.   This year’s 2-day symposium will bring together industry leaders to discuss the challenges of architecting, managing, and operating electric power systems with ubiquitous distributed energy resources. The GridWise Architecture Council (GWAC), a US DOE sponsored council of grid and grid edge subject matter experts, has spent 20 years developing guidance to meet the needs of stakeholders including system planners, policy makers, engineers, and integrators to strategically develop solutions.   The symposium will engage attendees to discuss new guidance and recommended practices in transforming the most complicated and expensive system ever built, the energy grid.   This symposium builds on GWAC’s leadership in transactive energy systems, grid interoperability, and grid architecture. The event format will include keynotes, panels, and interactive and engaging workshops.   Please join us for these informative and interactive discussions for all grid, grid edge, and DER stakeholders. Ron Bernstein Ron Ambrosio David Forfia Mark Paterson Marc Costa Jigar Shah Chris Irwin Jaime Kolln Aaron Snyder Aaron Smallwood Lorenzo Kristov Sean Myers Farrokh Rahimi Mark Ortiz Andrew Bordine
