🔌 Are our utility grid frameworks mature? Here’s why it matters! 🌐 When it comes to grid hardening and resiliency, having a mature grid framework is crucial. A mature framework isn’t just about optimizing the current system; it’s about ensuring continuous improvement and staying ahead of the curve as resiliency measures evolve. This proactive approach is key to maintaining reliable power during disasters or significant grid changes.   But how can we tell if the electric utility is on the right path toward this kind of strategic planning? At EnerNex, we’ve developed a scoring system to help utilities assess their current resiliency timeline and identify areas for improvement. Here’s a quick look at our maturity levels: 1️⃣ INITIAL: Early stages with foundational resiliency efforts. Time to focus on preparedness planning.  2️⃣ BASIC: Basic plans in place, but more work needed in managing and maintaining resiliency.  3️⃣ INTERMEDIATE: Established efforts with minor optimization needed; start looking toward modernization. 4️⃣ ADVANCED: Strong focus on modernizing resiliency with solid management foundations.  5️⃣ OPTIMIZING: Leading edge in grid modernization, consistently refining resiliency plans. Curious to know where your electric utility stands? Read “The Resiliency Continuum” to find out and start charting the path toward a more resilient grid! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g79C-faV      #GridResiliency #GridModernization #Utilities #EnerNex #ResiliencyPlanning #PowerGrid #WeatherEvents #DisasterPreparedness

Grid Transformation: Building the Energy Future The GridWise Architecture Council is pleased to partner with RE for our 8th Symposium, where we will discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with the ongoing Grid Transformation. Under the US Department of Energy’s sponsorship, GWAC is celebrating 20 years of thought leadership supporting the dynamic transformation of the power grid with a focus on the 3 Ds: Decarbonization, Decentralization, and Democratization. This year’s two-day symposium will bring together industry leaders to discuss the benefits and challenges of architecting, managing and operating electric power systems with the widespread adoption of distributed energy resources. The symposium will engage attendees to discuss new guidance and recommended practices for the next generation of stakeholders in the most complicated and expensive system ever built: the electric power grid. Featuring keynotes, panels, and interactive workshops, the symposium builds on GWAC’s leadership in transactive energy systems, grid interoperability, and grid architecture. Join us for these informative and interactive discussions for all grid, grid edge, and DER stakeholders. Date: Wednesday, September 11 & Thursday, September 12 Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Location: Anaheim Convention Center, Level 3, Room 304ABC Cost: $800 Member/$900 non-Member Join us! CIM (Common Information Model) is revolutionizing the utility sector by providing a common language for integration and interoperability across the enterprise. EnerNex's Dr. David A. Bishop attended the CIM User's Group conference this week at PNNL, and here are some of his key takeaways: 🔹 Post-COVID Surge: The adoption of CIM has increase rapidly, with more utilities recognizing its ability to enhance demand management, grid understanding, and Grid Edge interoperability. 🔹 Enhanced Analytics: CIM offers utilities valuable "sense-making" capabilities, enabling detailed data analytics and more actionable business intelligence. 🔹 Improved Data Quality: Utilities utilizing CIM for network model management have seen significant improvements in data quality. 🔹 Multi-Vendor Integration: With more vendors embracing CIM, it is becoming a critical success factor in multi-vendor environments. 🔹 Ease of Adoption: Advancements in tooling, open-source availability on GitHub, and strong community support have made CIM adoption more accessible than ever.     Stay tuned for more updates from our team as we continue to be a trusted partner amidst the ever-evolving energy sector!  (UCA INTERNATIONAL USERS GROUP) (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory)    #UtilityManagement #GridInteroperability #DataAnalytics #CIMug #EnerNex

EnerNex is getting involved in various projects involving benchmarking of PSSe and PSCAD models. We are seeing that the industry is grappling right now to determine the level of validation between various models, field parameter settings, etc. These changing requirements for model validation are causing confusion and delays in project applications. I am encouraged by the efforts of IEEE P2800.2 and IEEE 1547 revision working groups to tackle these complex subjects. These efforts enhance the reliability of our conversion to renewable power sources. #RENEWABLEPOWER #PSCAD #PSSE #IEEE

Excited to be a part of these interesting discussions. More data analytics, A.I., and better business intelligence are critical for enabling utilities to meet ever increasing demands. The CIM is a key component for making this happen by providing a common language across the enterprise. This week we had the opportunity to see how many utilities are doing it.
