About us
The Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG), previously known as the Utility Wind Integration Group (UWIG), was established in 1989 to provide a forum for the critical analysis of wind for utility applications. Initially focused on wind power, UWIG expanded its focus to include solar power and distributed generation and become known as the Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group in 2011. In 2018, driven by the economics and growth of renewable energy and the interdependent nature of the global energy industry, the association expanded its focus beyond the electricity system of today. These expanding perspectives around energy, and the growing need for coordination across the ways that we produce, convert, deliver and use energy, are the reasons we have become the Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG). This new positioning fulfills ESIG’s commitment to create a vibrant, compelling, and sustainable professional association that provides our members with the timely sharing and distribution of information, research, analysis, operations knowledge and peer-to-peer networking required by the changing global energy industry and the future industry landscape. ESIG does this by providing: - Collaborative thought leadership at the forefront of energy systems integration and operations. - Technically-grounded information and education without lobbying, selling or advocating. - Timely review and distribution of research on emerging technologies and practices. - Solutions that maximize asset utilization and optimize profits. CURRENT UVIG MEMBERS: We offer current members the opportunity to become more engaged and interactive with one another in a private forum. To help in this endeavor, ESIG has created private groups on LinkedIn. Members will engage in conversation, bounce ideas off one another and do a bit of virtual networking. The concept of the groups is to gather together in one place all relevant information on the topic of interest, and make it easily available to the members. The five technical working groups and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) User Group are a prominent membership benefit, focusing on specific areas of interest to its members: - Reliability Working Group (https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12046646) - System Operation and Market Design Working Group (https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12048271) - Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Working Group (https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12045881) - System Planning Working Group (https://www.linkedin.com/groups/12046628) - Research and Education Working Group First, you will need to join the group by clicking one of the links above. You will then click on the ‘Ask to Join’ button found on this page. Once we receive your request and confirm your membership in the group, you will be able to begin active conversations within the private forum.

Our Fall O&M Users Group Meeting kicked off this morning with an Opening Plenary discussing the Latest Perspectives in Repowering. Thanks to our speakers Brian LaMay, John Mostek, Meredyth Crichton, Bjorn Hedges, P.E., and our moderator Matthew Malkin. ESIG's Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Users Group represents a large and vibrant community of owners and operators of wind and solar power plants and is the only truly independent forum for the sharing of operational and maintenance issues. With no ties to any vendor or supplier and free of any commercial influence, this users group facilitates an open and candid discussion on the care and operation of generation equipment.
