Wi’áaşal, the Great Oak, is 1,000-year-old tree in Temecula, California that stands as a symbol of strength and it embodies the perseverance and self-determination of the Pechanga Band of Indians and Native American tribes across the country. Secretary Jennifer Granholm reflected on the tree’s symbolism with Pechanga Tribe Chairman Macarro and Office of Indian Energy | U.S. Department of Energy's Director Wahleah Johns. Thank you to the Pechanga Band of Indians for sourcing some video footage for the production of this video.
