BEHOLD: The oldest brand ambassador on the planet! I am 56 years young and still strapping a 75lb Rocketman pack on my back in the blistering Atlanta summer sun! I still got it…..with the help of Advil of course. I have always been taught that you need to lead by example. Or in other words, you must be willing to do what you are asking of others. I might not be the best leader to have ever been in business, but this is the one thing that I make a point of following consistently. Every boss/mentor that I have ever had and admired….that truly resonated with me……got into the trenches with the crew. I respected that more than any other managerial trait. While the above is likely the most important aspect, the other benefits of getting out in the field are very real. For starters, it is just fun. Plain and simple. Get out from behind your desk, away from the spreadsheets and contracts…..and be in the moment. Be part of the team, get sweaty, engage with consumers to hear their stories…..I promise there will be a solid take away, even if it is just to break up your own monotony of everyday life.   Your teams will work harder. It is simple math here. Teams comes up to me all the time and say, I have never worked with an owner like you. This empowers them to work as hard as you do. It is infectious. Plus, you can ask them to do anything ….because they know you can/will or have done it yourself. It is a unique perspective. Engaging with the public has always changed my viewpoints of a campaign. Hearing what resonates with them about the product or the engagement…..will always be eye opening. Usually in a positive way. It will give you several things to incorporate into the program that will make it all that much better. Remember, if one person likes something….more than likely the masses will enjoy that change as well. Damn….what a weekend! The first Subaru Winterfest stop at Killington, VT is in the books! Saturday was all time. The sun finally came out in Vermont after the cloudiest (is this a word) January on record. The Yonder Mountain String Band crushed it and brought in thousands of people to the footprint throughout the weekend. Swag was handed out. Free coffee/cocoa were guzzled. Snacks consumed. Skis/boards demoed. Boards were waxed. People swaying with the tunes. Cocktails were imbibed. Massive giveaways all weekend long. For the last 10 years, I have avoided CES like the plague. There are lots of reasons. First and foremost, it is ski season. Second, who wants to travel the first week of January? Third…..the crowds and lines (weird profession choice, right?)   But the CES drought is over for me. Yep, I am headed to Vegas today. Well, at least this time, I am posting on a Thursday. I am looking for some experience shares. We are considering hiring a Social Media/Content Coordinator for our various companies. We are looking for someone to run our social media channels, SEO efforts as well as our content creation (blogs, etc...). This would be for 3-4 different companies. As a 55 year old man....who barely knows how to post on Facebook....here are my questions: Can one person cover off on 3-4 different companies? Or is that too much for one person? Or is it not enough work for a full time role? What does a day in the life of this person look like? What do they do all day? What does an acceptable salary for this position look like? What are the success factors? Is it possible to find someone that knows social media and also knows the event space? Or is that an insane ask? I know. I am not supposed to post on a Friday. I get it (sort of). However, I have a great tour and I am still looking for some great people to round out the team. If you said yes to any of the above…..we should talk. Winterfest starts at the end of January and runs through beginning of May 2024.
