    At the #EMPower Europe Conference 2024, we had the pleasure of having Klemens Kaar as on of our speakers. In this short video, he discusses with Dr. Thomas Hillig the innovative CAES solutions by Corre Energy, which are a promising alternative to pumped hydro storage. CAES offers similar benefits to pumped hydro storage but does not require mountains; instead, it uses salt caverns, which are abundant in the lowlands of northern Germany and the Netherlands. This geographical distribution makes CAES an ideal complement to energy infrastructure in regions without mountainous landscapes.     What do you think about compressed air energy storage (CAES) solutions? At the #ThesmarterE, innovations and new products always play a key role. There is no doubt that we need long-duration energy storage systems to make the energy transition a success. After the first day of the EM-Power conference in Munich, I had the chance to discuss with Klemens Kaar about Corre Energy's compressed air #energystorage (CAES) solution. It comes with similar characteristics as pumped hydropower. However, it does not require mountains, but instead salt caverns. In Europe, many salt caverns are in the lowlands of northern Germany and the Netherlands. From a geographical point of view, the locations of salt caverns are very complementary to good pumped-hydropower locations.
