EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. As someone who has spent time trying to define previous VP picks like Palin and Pence, this is a really important and strategic move by Vice President Harris. We know that Trump is trying to mislead voters on his agenda, particularly around reproductive freedom. And his team is likely to frame this pick (falsely) as a way to reach out to moderate voters. In past elections, we've seen that the early framing of a VP pick is often around the softer side of their bio and/or the strategy behind the pick. We need to make sure NOW that voters understand what these VP picks stand for and what they will mean for the ticket. We're proud to do this work at EMILYs List through our VP On Notice program, and we've seen the DNC do this work as well, but by doing it from the VP, this work and their records/plans will get more attention. It also makes the contrast even more clear between VP Harris and any one of Trump's picks: one is a steadfast advocate for reproductive rights and one has supported efforts to roll those rights back--and is joining a ticket that clearly will do the same. https://lnkd.in/eFVTaNNy
