Promoting individual contributors (ICs) from within your organization, into leadership roles can be really positive for morale and help improve retention, but it's not always the right move. Individual contributors that are unprepared for the shift in expectations, change in relationships, added stress and complexities of the new role, WILL FAIL and this ultimately degrades retention and morale. #unintendedconsequences
