About us
ECCHO is a service of The Clearing House. Any depository financial institution, regardless of size, is eligible for membership in ECCHO. ECCHO was created in 1990 by banks as a cooperative venture to encourage the use of electronics to enhance the check collection system. In the early years the focus was on electronic check presentment (ECP). Since the passage of Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act (Check 21), ECCHO’s primary focus has been the use of image exchange to improve the efficiency of check payments. ECCHO’s primary activities can be divided among three functions: 1) rules development and maintenance, 2) industry education and 3) industry advocacy.

National Check Payments Certification Historical Achievement! I am pleased to announce that today April 2, 2024, ECCHO’s National Check Payments Certification (NCPC) broke record by registering 302 candidates for the 2024 exam cycle. It is a major achievement that took a lot of work including many changes in the past 3 years and extraordinary support from a great team of contributors which includes ECCHO staff, Payment Associations NCP Partner Trainers, TCH PA and ECCHO memberships. Since joining TCH in 2020, one of my main goals has been the growth of the exam registrations. Many thought the growth of the NCPC program would be in jeopardy since in 2020 we experienced the greatest pandemic the world had ever experienced (COVID-19) and for the first time in the history of the Program, we had to cancel the NCP exam. However, in 2021, not only did we register 151 candidates for the NCP exam but we also deployed a newly first of its kind OnVue online exam proctoring tool where the examinee could take the exam in the safety of their home or office. We have seen the NCP exam registrations grow each year as follows: in 2022 (275); in 2023 (284); and currently, in 2024 (302). The exam window starts April 20, so we might still see additional registrations! The success of the NCPC program is primarily a result of direct marketing, information sharing via LinkedIn, Payment Association Training Partners and driving the importance of the Program which provides an immediate solution to assist in developing knowledge through all who earn the NCP designation and maintain the accreditation via its continuing education.
