We asked one of ESW's our Corporate Support Vice Chair and Social Media Vice Chair @Hugh Hoagland, to share a few words about his history and involvement with ESW! Read on... "Could you tell us about your involvement with the IEEE Electrical Safety Workshop?" Hugh Hoagland: "Certainly. I began attending and presenting at the IEEE Electrical Safety Workshop in 2002, following my publication of papers in several key industry conferences such as REPC, PPIC, I&CPS, and PCIC." "What roles have you taken on since then?" Hugh Hoagland: "Over the years, I've been heavily involved. I've served as Workshop Chair and International Committee Chair, contributed to the Technical Sub-Committee, Social Media Sub-Committee, and Publicity Committee. Additionally, I've been a consistent sponsor, promoter, and exhibitor for my company e-Hazard." "How has your experience with the ESW impacted you?" Hugh Hoagland: "My research and affiliation with the ESW have been incredibly fulfilling, second only to my work with ASTM standards writing. I've had the privilege to delve into papers that explore topics like PPE protection, arc flash, and arc blast pressure. It's been a true pleasure. " Thank you Hugh for your tireless efforts and work to make ESW a success! This was a great experience watching the process of developing papers for ESW! Thanks Thomas Domitrovich and Nehad El-Sherif for putting this on! https://lnkd.in/gAr_s6eG
Competing Design Goals Listen in and contribute to a technical paper that Tom and Nehad ElSherif are working on that speaks to competing design goals vs. codes and standards. We will be working on a paper that seeks to manage risk for electrical installations. This is a live session where Tom and Nehad will be creating language for this paper and you can have a chance to contribute.

The Electrical Safety Workshop has served since 1992 as the forerunner on electrical safety codes and standards. Governance and long-term strategic planning for the IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop is the responsibility of the IAS Electrical Safety Committee. It functions under the Policies of the IEEE and the Constitution, Bylaws, Operating Policies and Procedures of the IEEE Industry Applications Society. Since the first ESW was held in 1992, more than 600 technical presentations and 60 tutorials have been presented at the annual ESW. For records and resources from previous ESW's refer to this link: https://zurl.co/WJhm for a list of papers and presentations accessible through IEEE Xplore. @Zarheer Jooma, @Dennis Hill, @Lloyd Gordan, @Paul Sullivan, @Terry Perilloux #Electricalmaintenance #Electricalmaintenance #NFPA70E #NFPA70B #ArcFlash #ArcRatings #Shockprotection #ArcRatedPPE #electricalsafety #electricians #electricalsafetystandards #electricalsafetycodes

My first ESW was in 2007 in Calgary, Canada and I was hooked. Here were people who were passionate about safety in my industry. They understood the damage that electricity can do to the human body, whether in the form of an arc flash or an electrical shock wanted to educate themselves and others as to how to prevent these incidents from occurring. I wanted to return again and again. Unfortunately, my employer did not think the ESW was important enough to send me every year and I attended only sporadically. Then one year I realized it didn’t matter what my employer thought as to the importance, what mattered was what I got out of it and whether I attended on their nickel or mine, I was never going to miss an ESW again. I have been blessed to be a part of the committee that organizes the ESW since 2020 and am honored to be a part of the process that puts on this fabulous event. My role as chair of corporate support is to ask entities for money to help cover the significant costs of putting on event of this nature in order to allow us to keep the price of the event as low as possible for attendees. If you or your company would like to be a part of supporting this very worthwhile workshop, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. Thank you @wes mozley for your commitment to ESW! We couldn't do it without you. Interested in how your team can support the Electrical Safety Workshop? Meet @Michael Kovacic, future ESW General Chair! We asked for a few thoughts on ESW and here's what he shared: 💬 How have you been involved with ESW in the past? 2024 marked 12 ESW conferences for me. I started off as just another attendee, eager to see what others in my industry were doing and learn from them. A friend involved in the committees encouraged me to get more involved. I wrote/presented papers, gave tutorials, and eventually joined a committee. Now I’m the Technical Support Chair. 💡 If you were to take one thing away from ESW, what would it be? Knowledge. No matter how much I think I know, I always learn something at ESW. Someone always has a new idea, technology, or perspective. The association with so many industry professionals drives discussion and ideas. 🚀 What are you looking forward to with this year's workshop? 2024 ESW had the highest attendance ever. I'm excited for even more attendees this year, leading to expanded growth, knowledge exchange, and networking opportunities in our industry. #Electricalmaintenance #Electricalmaintenance #NFPA70E #NFPA70B #ArcFlash #ArcRatings #Shockprotection #ArcRatedPPE #electricalsafety #electricians #electricalsafetystandards #electricalsafetycodes
