Embracing change can lead to amazing things. I'm talking about my transition from chemical engineering to healthcare software. This may sound like a huge change but, it's something that taught me a lot about myself and what I'm really passionate about. I started my career as a chemical and polymer scientist but always felt a calling towards the healthcare industry (largely because of my family's background in the medical field). Early on my dream was to become a doctor, but after being advised by my father (a doctor!), I decided against it and placed my focus on developing prosthetic limbs and medical therapies. This was something that made me feel like I was making a real difference and combined my engineering background with my need to help people. Working in this environment opened my eyes to the inefficiencies in healthcare delivery systems and the massive opportunities for improvement. So, I made it my mission to enhance healthcare quality and efficiency. I was able to realize this mission by leading several healthcare software and analytics companies. Making the shift from polymer science to healthcare wasn't easy, but it was fueled by a deep passion and commitment to making a broader impact on the industry. If you're considering a career change but are being held back by fear, remember that change is an opportunity to grow, improve, and get closer to the goals that really matter to you.
