The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Justice and Equity (EJE) develops and executes policies to implement applicable legislation and Executive Orders that strengthen diversity and inclusion goals affecting equal employment opportunities, small and disadvantaged businesses, minority educational institutions, and historically under-represented communities. With a commitment to energy justice and equity, EJE is dedicated to ensuring that everyone is afforded an opportunity to participate fully in DOE’s programs and opportunities. EJE has approximately 100 program managers, analysts, and administrative staff. Its headquarters offices are in downtown Washington, D.C.

Built nearly 100 years ago, the Hoover Dam is a hallmark of big and bold action in the U.S. We invested in America then and, under the Biden-Harris Administration, we’re investing in America now. By 2030, we expect to add the equivalent of over 300 Hoover Dams-worth of clean energy to our grid.

Rebecca Feuerlicht from the Office of Energy Justice and Equity will lead a discussion on the Low-Income Communities Bonus Credit Program designed to promote cost-saving clean energy investments in low-income communities, and on Indian land, as part of affordable housing developments, and benefitting low-income households. This bonus credit provides a 10 or 20 percentage point increase to the investment tax credit for qualified solar and wind energy facilities with a maximum net output of less than five megawatts (AC). Submissions for the 2024 Low-Income Communities Bonus Credit Program Year are currently being accepted on a rolling basis! According to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Berkeley Lab, communities within 20 miles of operational wind projects see an increase in employment rates and income. LBNL recently released a study investigating how wind energy development positively impacts employment for black workers, men, and a range of skilled workers, as well as increases wage rates in the surrounding communities.
