About us
The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving people with epilepsy in 22 counties of northeastern New York including the Capital Region, North Country and Upper Hudson Valley. The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York is an independent affiliate of the National Epilepsy Foundation. The mission of the Epilepsy Foundation is to lead the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy and to accelerate therapies to stop seizures, find cures, and save lives. We provide information and referral, comprehensive service coordination, counseling, support groups, school education, and advocacy for individuals and their families in order to maximize their participation in society. We also provide information about epilepsy to professionals in the community through our professional training programs.

We were excited to host the new President and CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation, Bernice Martin Lee “Bee”, at our office last week for a special luncheon event with individuals affected by epilepsy. Bee shared her personal epilepsy journey as well as the new National Office vision statement “so that no one faces epilepsy alone”.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York, Inc. recently named the recipients of five college scholarships to graduating high school seniors. These scholarships are awarded to students currently being treated for epilepsy who plan to further their education. A few of our 2024 scholarship recipients recently joined several of our donors to celebrate their accomplishments!🎓 Congratulations to the following recipients: The Nick Birchak Strength of Character College Scholarship ($1,000) and The Stephen Piorkowski Scholarship ($500) - awarded to Madison Dillon of Schenectady High School. The Barbara Quackenbush College Scholarship ($1,000)– awarded to Madeline Tursky of Moriah Central School. The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York Scholarship ($1,000) – awarded to Sarah Hayes of Bethlehem Central Senior High School. The Kevin and Cindy Volk Scholarship ($500) – awarded to Shae Arsenault of Tupper Lake Middle High School. The Kevin and Cindy Volk Scholarship ($500) – awarded to Lauren Mihaly of Schuylerville Central High School. We are pleased to announce we have been awarded a Community Impact Grant through the Marjorie Rockwell Fund for the Disabled of The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region. A grant in the amount of $13,000 has been awarded and will be applied to a newly created Transportation Fund to address special travel requests by consumers unable to drive due to their diagnosis of epilepsy who are living within the counties we serve. The Transportation Fund will consider requests for travel to medical appointments, counseling services, support groups, Studio E, educational programs, events organized by the Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York, grocery stores, and social visits. To apply, you may contact Sam Champagne, Counselor, and Program Coordinator, at schampagne@epilepsyneny.org or (518) 456-7501 to request funding and to schedule travel arrangements if approved.
