It's always fun to see what schools do with their flex periods, especially when they get creative and go off-campus for things like this at Peninsula High School in San Mateo Union High School District! Thanks for sharing, Randall Booker!
Students at Peninsula High School spend a flex period at B Street Boxing in San Mateo once a week with Mental Health Therapist Hilda Villanueva, LMFT and teachers, including Aaron Oka and Tiffany Beltran. Special shout out to boxing coach Eddie Croft who teaches the students that through the sport of boxing, you can achieve optimal physical and mental health. Eddie is a staple of San Mateo and provides an opportunity for students to learn discipline, improve self-esteem, enhance confidence and achieve personal growth. Thank you Hilda for inviting me to check this out.

It's always awesome to see schools use their Advisory and Flex periods to provide opportunities for kids that don't easily fit into the rest of the daily schedule, like Spokane Public Schools' Lewis & Clark High School did by bringing in local professionals to share their expertise with students! Thanks for sharing and putting in the work to make it happen! We're also always here to help make flex scheduling logistics easier for those interested!
CAREER DAY: More than 50 #Spokane area professionals visited Lewis and Clark High School on Monday, March 11 during the school’s Advisory period to share information about their expertise and the training, education and experience needed in these industries. Visitors’ professional areas of expertise included: 🌿 Environment/Natural Resources ⚖ Law and Public Safety 🖌 Arts/Graphic Design/Marketing/Writing 🩺 Health Sciences 🔧 Architecture, Construction, Carpentry and Skilled Trades 🍏 Education 💵 Business, Management and Finances 🔬 Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Students learned about a typical day in the life of the profession, salary ranges, and what visitors like about their jobs. Exposing students to the various career paths available to them is one way that SPS is preparing Spokane’s future workforce while fulfilling the #SPSPromise – that every student has a dream, access, and opportunity for a happy and successful future. Thank you to the local professionals who shared their time and expertise with our students!
