We are at it again! I am so proud to be part of Edelman Financial Engines, broadening financial education across our communities! Thank you, Dre Woodberry for bringing us in to share the Dollar Sense program within the The Possible Zone community. Thank you to my colleague, Clarence Haynes Jr. for facilitating this program and your everlasting drive to share your expertise with others. Financial literacy can change lives and prepare us all for a better future, one decision at a time. “Financial illiteracy is not an issue unique to any one population. It affects everyone: men and women, young and old, across all racial and socioeconomic lines. No longer can we stand by and ignore this problem. The economic future of the United States depends on it.” President’s Advisory Council on Financial Literacy #FromHereForward

In honor of #Juneteenth, our BEACON Employee Resource Group (ERG) at Edelman Financial Engines hosted a session with our colleagues on How History Impacts Perspective with Dr. Marcus Collins. In the past two years, because of the BEACON ERG Leadership Team, we’ve been fortunate to learn the significance and criticality of Juneteenth to our shared history through stories of speakers' ancestors from Cheryl Wills and Sam Collins. This year, we learned just how important the stories we tell are to shaping our perspective of people and events, ultimately influencing how we react and take in news and media. We learned that our perspective and opinions are largely influenced by the stories that those around us tell. We need to take responsibility for telling better stories that acknowledge that history and current events are usually not as binary as the media or the stories we’re told make them seem. WE need to embrace the gray, and go out of our way to learn the stories that are not being fed to us. Thank you, Dr. Marcus Collins, Jennifer Maccannon, Treymane Christopher, MBA, and Michelle Muhammed, CFP®, ChFC®, CDFA® for challenging each of us to tell better stories. Thank you to Ingrid Harb and NOTA Inclusion for always recommending stellar speakers! #FromHereForward
