  • Incredibly inspired by my recent experience at the Clinton Global Initiative (#CGI2024) in NYC. I attended a panel on African impact projects for food security, where the speaker’s insights on sustainable refrigeration for food preservation struck a chord. The need for innovation to reduce food waste and improve food security in vulnerable communities is vital. It was a full-circle moment when I realized the speaker was Jacqueline Novogratz, whose book The Blue Sweater inspired me years ago. Her vision of impact investing and patient capital through the Acumen Fund continues to shape my perspective. At the Equitable Climate Innovations Institute (ECIi), we’re focused on: ➞ CO2-to-dry ice technology: Reducing post-harvest losses for smallholder farmers in Eastern Africa.  ➞ Scaling climate finance: Building climate resilience for vulnerable communities. Jacqueline’s message reaffirms our commitment to turning innovative ideas into action. If you're passionate about sustainable solutions, let’s  collaborate on driving meaningful change. • Food Loss vs. Food Waste: There's a crucial distinction between food loss and food waste: ➞ Food Waste, on the other hand, occurs at the consumer level. This includes food that is thrown away at homes, restaurants, or grocery stores because it is past its expiration date or simply not consumed. ➞ Food Loss refers to food that is lost during production, processing, or transportation before reaching the consumer. This could include crops that are not harvested due to market conditions. Why does it matter? This difference is not just semantic; understanding it can help us tackle the global food crisis more efficiently.                                                                                     At ECIi, our goal is to minimize food loss by up to 50%, conserving resources like water and energy. water, dirt, energy and the overall environment. Let’s raise awareness about these critical issues and work together towards a sustainable food future! What strategies do you use to minimize food loss and waste? • I’m incredibly inspired by the impactful initiatives here at the Clinton Global Initiative (#CGI2024) in NYC. As President Bill Clinton said, "We have no lack of global problems, but we remain a room of optimists and doers helping in times of crisis." This event is a powerful reminder that together, we can drive real, positive change. At the Equitable Climate Innovations Institute (ECIi), we’re proud to contribute to these global efforts by focusing on: ➞ CO2-to-dry ice technology, a sustainable coldchain solution prohibtitng post-harvest losses for small holder farmers in Eastern Africa, reducing food loss and improving food security. ➞ Scaling climate finance to build climate resilience and support vulnerable communities  CGI is all about turning ideas into action, and we’re thrilled to be part of this movement.   Nadia Soraya #ClimateFinance #SustainabilityLeadership #CGI2024 #ECIi #InnovationForGood #ClimateAction #GlobalImpact #SustainableDevelopment #ClintonGlobalInitiative

  • India's $14 Billion Food Loss Crisis: Time for Climate-Driven Innovation  Net-zero CO2 capture technology offers a transformative solution to India’s 40% food spoilage problem. At ECIi, we’re leading the charge by implementing carbon-neutral dry ice systems that can revolutionize India’s food supply chain. ➞40% of food produced in India is lost due to post-harvest spoilage, resulting in a $14 billion loss annually. ➞ This inefficiency fuels both hunger and greenhouse gas emissions, creating a dual crisis. ➞ Traditional cold chain systems, reliant on fossil fuels and electricity, only add to the environmental burden. Our Innovative Solution Net-zero CO2 direct air capture technology converts atmospheric CO2 into dry ice, enabling carbon-neutral refrigeration for fresh produce and meats without electricity dependency. Key Benefits: ✅Climate Action: Cutting-edge CO2 capture directly addresses food-related emissions by creating a sustainable cold chain system. ✅Food Waste Reduction: Extends the shelf life of perishable goods, significantly reducing spoilage. ✅Economic Savings: Saves billions in spoilage costs, creating a more resilient, efficient food supply system. ✅ Scalable Globally: This solution sets the blueprint for integrating sustainability into global food logistics. By merging sustainability and technological innovation, we’re laying the foundation for global food security. This isn't just about reducing waste—it's about creating a scalable, climate-resilient supply chain that can serve as a model worldwide.  Ready to innovate with us? #NetZero #ClimateSolutions #SustainableFoodSystems #ColdChainInnovation #india #climatechange

The event gathered leaders from climate finance, investors, and policy experts. I was especially pleased with the focus on bridging the gap between the climate action needed and the current mechanisms in place. It emphasized "walking the talk"—mobilizing finance to turn ideas into real-world solutions. I am excited to see these insights implemented! • Food loss in Kenya isn’t just an economic issue.. It’s a critical social, environmental, and global challenge. ECIi is stepping up to address this by implementing.. Carbon-neutral cold chain solutions that transform food storage while reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions. In rural Kenya, where inadequate storage leads to up to 50% of food spoilage, our solutions offer a sustainable way to keep food fresh longer. Powered by renewable energy and atmospheric carbon capture, ECIi’s cold chain systems are creating impactful results: ➞Extended food shelf life, even in regions without reliable electricity. ➞ Zero additional greenhouse gases emitted during storage. ➞ Economic uplift for local farmers, reducing post-harvest losses and increasing profitability. This approach is more than just a technological innovation. it’s a pathway to solving global socio-economic challenges, one community at a time. #ClimateAction #FoodSecurity #Sustainability #GreenTech #CarbonNeutral #kenya #southafrica
