Attending ASN #Nutrition2024 was an incredible experience filled with insightful discussions and inspiring moments. Here are some key takeaways: 1. Collaboration Conversations Everywhere: From the keynote speeches to in-between session conversations, the spirit of collaboration was palpable. Networking sessions buzzed with energy, fostering new connections and sparking innovative ideas. 2. Real People Behind the Numbers: It was a powerful reminder that behind every statistic and data point, there are real individuals whose stories matter. This human-centric approach resonated deeply and emphasized the importance of empathy in our work. 3. Communicating Science and Industry Partnerships: The most talked-about session highlighted the crucial role of effective communication between scientists and industry leaders. Bridging this gap is essential for driving progress and translating research into real-world solutions. Hot topics included the advancements in GLP-1 medications and the transformative role of artificial intelligence in our field. These discussions underscored the fast-paced evolution of our industry and the exciting opportunities ahead. ✅ Food safety is sustainability. ✅ Innovation is sustainability. ✅ Nutrition is sustainability. This pragmatic piece from the always insightful Jack A Bobo underscores a critical need for #sustainability and #nutrition to be integrated within corporate food industry strategies. But most companies are still too siloed to see the possibility of synergistic impact. Nutrition leaders are often (mis)perceived as finger-wagging food police vs. the sustainability enablers they can truly be considered today. This means missed opportunities to fully leverage in-house expertise to transform portfolios toward healthier and more sustainable diets. Conversely, sustainability leaders are often pulled in so many different directions that they're unable to see the tangible value that can be realized by integrating nutrition and health into sustainability strategies. Food science, innovation, responsible marketing ---> these all can drive sustainable, healthy diets. Setting a corporate strategy to integrate sustainability and nutrition is the first step.

“How we produce, process, transform, transport, package, consume, and dispose of food will determine the fate of the planet. However, efforts to promote environmental sustainability, ensure food security, and achieve nutritional adequacy are hindered by global phenomena such as climate change and rapid population growth. Technological developments in food science, such as alternative proteins, nutraceuticals, and digital innovations, are emerging as pivotal solutions. These advancements not only address the nutritional and environmental aspects but also cater to the changing consumer preferences and market dynamics. Innovations in food science are essential but not sufficient to address the challenges we face. Designing a sustainable, resilient, and nutritious food system is a collaborative effort involving various stakeholders, including governments, industry, academia, and consumers. By integrating the latest trends and research in food science, this article aims to illustrate the transformative potential of innovative food science solutions in reshaping the global food landscape towards sustainability and resilience.” University of Nottingham Food Systems Institute at the University of Nottingham Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST)

As the drivers for nutrition strategy and communications constantly shift, Eat Well Global is committed to providing timely updates on the key trends and developments impacting our clients in the food, nutrition, and agriculture space. Check out our team’s top 3 takeaways from the Today's Dietitian Spring Symposium last week in Salt Lake City: 1. GLP-1 Medications Remain at the Forefront The increasing popularity of GLP-1 agonist medications was a significant focus at the symposium. RDNs play a crucial role in guiding patients using these medications, highlighting their unique expertise. As these medications, companion foods, and related nutraceuticals gain traction, the expertise of RDNs and other healthcare professionals will be indispensable. 2. Gen-Z's Impact on the Consumer Landscape Representing about 20% of the U.S. population, Gen-Z is deeply concerned with climate change, mental health, and personal well-being, and they seek credible voices for information on these topics. RDNs are uniquely positioned to be trusted voices among this audience to provide reliable health and wellness guidance amidst a sea of online influencers. 3. Sustainable Eating Maintains Momentum The push for climate-friendly eating is gaining strength. Promoting the environmental benefits of plant-forward diets is increasing as research underscores the benefits to both human health and the planet. RDNs are poised to advocate for these evidence-based dietary shifts in alignment with national nutrition guidelines.
