What a race! On July 4th, the 51st Annual Crown City Classic 12K & 5K made history with record-breaking attendance! It has been amazing to work with the team at Easy Day Sports and the Islander Sports Foundation in Coronado to put on an event like this. This was my third time working at this event, but this time, I was responsible for all the marketing and event management aspects that made this day so spectacular! Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, and partners who allowed us to bring this race back to its glory this year. And yes, I did run into Nick Wolf, MBA, who crushed it! I am blessed to have also met Jess McClain, this year's race ambassador and 12K Overall Female Winner, AND the Team USA Alternate for the 10K and Marathon in the 2024 Paris Olympics! That person is just a "Try-Hard." This week I heard a younger person say this. It was meant as an insult. So I did a little research. Apparently this is now a common insult. People say this to make fun of those who 'try hard.' On the one hand, I was shocked and a bit sad. On the other hand, it made me realize how easy it could be for people (not just younger people) to stand out. If 'trying hard' is an insult, and no longer the norm. It should be very easy to stand out. Just do the basics better... like show up, be on time, be prepared, and just do the work. If the standard is low, raise it. Go to ANY successful business, big or small. It could be a local restaurant, or retail store, or even a bigger corporation. If it's successful, you can bet there are a bunch of people there 'trying hard.' I would love growing up in a world where people my age, my COMPETITION, makes funs of those who 'try hard.'
