About us
Easterseals is leading the way to full equity, inclusion, and access through life-changing disability and community services. For more than 100 years, we have worked tirelessly with our partners to enhance quality of life and expand local access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. And we won’t rest until every one of us is valued, respected, and accepted. Through our national network of affiliates, Easterseals provides essential services and on-the-ground supports to more than 1.5 million people each year — from early childhood programs for the critical first five years, to autism services, to medical rehabilitation and employment programs, to veterans’ services, and more. Our public education, policy, and advocacy initiatives positively shape perceptions and address the urgent and evolving needs of the one in four Americans living with disabilities today. Together, we’re empowering people with disabilities, families and communities to be full and equal participants in society.

Halloween reminds us of the difference between real and imagined fears—disability isn’t scary, but ableism certainly is. Easterseals has been advocating for years to make air travel truly accessible for everyone, and we’re thrilled to see Delta Air Lines, U.S. Department of Transportation, and Federal Aviation Administration working together to get to the day when wheelchair users can fly while seated in their own chairs. This milestone brings us closer to a future where people with disabilities can travel safely, with ease, and without the worry that their mobility devices might be damaged during flight. It is exciting to see such crucial action towards air travel accessibility! #AccessibleAirTravel https://lnkd.in/gSNYptZ6

We applaud Secretary Pete Buttigieg and the Department of Transportation for holding American Airlines accountable with a $50 million fine for mistreating passengers with disabilities. This action is a crucial step in making air travel more accessible. At Easterseals, we’ve been advocating to make America the world’s most accessible air travel market. Our nationwide effort to advance accessible travel launched last year, and this report highlights how urgent it is to ensure air travel becomes easier, not harder, for everyone.
