🚀New Milestone Achieved: Surrogate Fuels for Advanced HOEF Analysis We’re excited to announce we reached a key milestone in our ongoing research into higher oxygenate e-fuels (HOEF). The consortium has successfully produced a significant volume of surrogate fuels, enabling us to advance our study and formulation of these innovative fuels. These surrogate mixtures accurately replicate HOEF in its two forms—higher aliphatic alcohols and higher aliphatic ethers—paving the way for critical fuel characterization, combustion profiling, and fuel-system interaction assessments. Key activities include: 🔬 Blending Strategies: Crafting blends with marine fuels like MGO, ensuring compliance with ISO8217 and EN590 standards. ⚙️ Compatibility Testing: Assessing HOEF formulations against current fuel supply systems and diesel engines through rigorous tests. ✅ Performance Analysis: Measuring the impact of HOEF and its blends on ignition, efficiency, and emissions. This work underscores the potential of HOEF as a drop-in fuel for marine and heavy-duty applications, aligning with the future of sustainable transport. 📢 News update: E-TANDEM was presented during the 13th NGCS in Xiamen, China in April this year. Prof. Michael Claeys (from University of Cape Town, South Africa) and Prof. Gonzalo Prieto ( From Institute for Chemical Technology (CSIC), Valencia, Spain), were invited to lecture at the NGCS. This meeting brought together more than 800 participants representing over 220 industrial and academic institutions from around the globe. This prestigious triennial conference series has served for nearly 40 years as a prime forum to discuss advances in the valorization of C1 unconventional feedstocks, such as methane and CO2, into valuable energy carriers and chemicals. Claeys and Prieto presented recent developments in their teams on the (tandem) catalytic conversion of syngas to high-performance e-fuels. 👋 Let us introduce to you Maja Perčić from University of Zagreb, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture! Maja and her team have been assigned the task of investigating the environmental footprint of the HOEF e-fuel by conducting a Life-Cycle Assessment (#LCA) in the E-TANDEM project. Maja: "The most innovative aspect of my research at E-TANDEM is the opportunity to model the entire fuel production process from scratch. In contrast to previous research, where existing database processes were utilized, this project allows for the design of a new, tailored model that accurately reflects the specific conditions and parameters of the HOEF production. Our Hardware-in-the-Loop test bench just hit a crucial milestone – a big shoutout to our partner #T4F 🙌 This cutting-edge test bench is now geared to study fuel-material interactions using the innovative higher oxygenated diesel-like e-fuel (HOEF) in real-world off-road applications. Notably, we've successfully adapted a standard passenger car test bench into an off-road system, showcasing enhanced versatility. 🌐 Our team's meticulous refinement of test bench parameters has led to a reduced fuel requirement, strategically tackling challenges associated with lower fuel quantities in novel fuels.
