Next stop: Bonn. On Monday and Tuesday, several meetings, workshops that identified creative ways to further our work (marketing, evaluation, target audiences, …), and conferences in the DAAD Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst headquarters in the former West German capital were on the agenda. A special “Thank you” to DAAD general secretary Kai Sicks for the warm welcome and discussion! A highlight with a special importance for the #DWIHNY and #DWIHSF was the DAAD KiWi Connect event “US #ResearchSecurity Strategy and the Role of #Transatlantic #ScienceCooperation” with Rebecca Spyke Keiser (National Science Foundation (NSF). Tuesday evening, Jan Lüdert, Ph.D. (bottom right with rector Xiaomeng Shen) celebrated 20 years of United Nations University - Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), a dear partner of the DWIH, recently shown during a joint event in December 2023 in New York.

On Wednesday, the #DWIHNY was part of the DWIH Network Day, an annual conference hosted by the DWIH Bonn Office - this year in Berlin - which brings together representatives from the DWIHs DWIH New Delhi, New York, German Center for Research and Innovation (DWIH) San Francisco, DWIH São Paulo, and DWIH Tokyo (German Centre for Research and Innovation Tokyo) for a joint event. Through short presentations, the attendees gained insights into the DWIH activities and learned first-hand about the range of services and opportunities to participate in this global network. In-depth discussions with the individual institutions' representatives - too many to be tagged here ;-) - offered personal exchange. We are already looking forward to the 2025 edition!

One day, two universities: On Tuesday, #DWIHNY Head of Programs Jan Lüdert, Ph.D., was welcomed at Freie Universität Berlin and Technische Universität Berlin respectively, two of our associate supporters and part of the Berlin University Alliance. After a lunch with the executives of the International House at FU Berlin with a conversation on various issues regarding #ScienceDiplomacy and the future of #transatlantic research collaboration, Jan visited the greenCHEM Chemical Invention Factory (CIF) at TU Berlin. Martin Rahmel and Stephen Leach introduced Jan into the center for #startups in Green #Chemistry. Later, he went on to BIFOLD - Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data, which conducts groundbreaking foundational research in #BigData Management and #MachineLearning. The last stop at the day, the ZEKI | Zentrum für erlebbare KI und Digitalisierung showed the great research on innovative technologies conducted at FU Berlin. Productive day with a lot of inspiration!
