Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.
About us
Since its founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built more than 800,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Today, Habitat for Humanity is largest non-publically traded construction company in the United States, and the only nonprofit organization in list of the Top 20 homebuilders. DuPage Habitat’s Mission Statement: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. DuPage Habitat’s Vision: A world where everyone has a decent place to live. We believe that owning a home is major milestone on the road to a family's financial success, and a key component of community's economic stability. In DuPage County approximately 2 out of 10 very low income families have access to affordable housing. At DuPage Habitat we don't address this by providing a hand out, rather we offer a hand up by enabling our partner families to achieve the pride of homeownership working side by side with community volunteers to build or repair their home. Since 1995, DuPage Habitat has sold homes to over 75 limited-income families with over 170 children. Over the next three years our ambitious goal is to serve over 80 hardworking families which we estimate will provide a safe, stable and healthy environment for over 220 children.

Sarah Breedlove, more famously known as Madam C.J. Walker, was America’s first female, self-made millionaire and at the time of her death was most likely the wealthiest African-American businesswoman in the world. . The Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company produced a line of cosmetic and hair products designed for Black women and with the profits, Walker opened a series of beauty schools and hair salons. . Walker heavily advocated for the economic empowerment of black women, hiring and providing training and certification programs to her thousands of employees. Walker contributed time and money to the NAACP, the YMCA, and the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs. . #womenbuild #habitatforhumanity #together #empower #influence #trailblazers #community #women #empower #strength

Born in Chicago in 1871, Marion Mahony Griffin was one of the first licensed female architects and one of the founding members of the Prairie School architectural style. . In 1895, Frank Lloyd Wright hired Mahony as his first employee and many of the drawings and designs popularly credited to Wright were actually done by Mahony. Later, Mahony, alongside her husband Walter Burley Griffin, won an international contest for their design of Australia’s new capital city, Canberra. We are starting by looking at impactful women from the 1900-1940s. . After Margaret's husband passed, Slocum Sage dedicated her $63,000,000 fortune to philanthropy. . In 1907, Sage created the Russell Sage Foundation, dedicated to “the improvement of social and living conditions in the United States” through research into social issues. The Russell Sage Foundation continues its work today, funding research projects on labor, behavioral economics, immigration, inequality, and more. . #womenbuild #habitatforhumanity #together #empower #influence #trailblazers #community #women #empower #strength
