    Port Houston Statement On Work Stoppage Tuesday, October 1, 2024, 4:50 PM The existing contract between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) has expired and there is a work stoppage at Port Houston’s container terminals. Port Houston is not involved in the contract negotiations or discussions. Port Houston’s Bayport and Barbours Cut Container Terminal gates are closed and all container operations are suspended for the duration of this work stoppage. ILA-supported public general cargo/multi-purpose facilities are not impacted by the work stoppage. Reefer Units: All reefer units will remain connected to power throughout the work stoppage. Please contact the ocean carriers for monitoring capabilities. Rail: Rail operations at our terminals are suspended for the duration of the work stoppage. Storage: Port Houston will not charge the ocean carriers storage on days the terminal gates are closed. Please reach out to the ocean carrier directly for free-time inquiries.     Port Houston Operations Update: USMX – ILA Pending Work Stoppage Thursday, September 26, 2024, 4:10 PM The existing contract between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) expires at midnight on Monday, September 30 and we are preparing for a potential work stoppage on October 1st. In the days leading up to September 30th, we expect normal business operations. If there is a work stoppage, Port Houston container terminal gates will be closed. We will provide daily updates and share the latest information on our website as the situation develops. Please see below for additional details regarding our container terminal operations. Friday, September 27 • Standard Hours – 6 am -7 pm, ingate close at 6 pm • No reefers after 5 pm Saturday, September 28 • Extended Hours – 8 am -5 pm, ingate close at 4 pm • No reefers/Out of Gauge • Empty Yards will match our hours • Please confirm LFD/Cutoffs with the SSL • Port Houston Customer Service will be available Monday, September 30 • Standard Hours – 6 am -7 pm, ingate close at 6 pm • No reefers after 5 pm • Vessel ops will conclude by 7 pm Reefer Units: Reefers may be received until 5 pm September 30th,. All reefer units will remain connected to power throughout any work stoppage – Please contact the ocean carriers for monitoring capabilities. Hazardous Units: Hazardous may be received until 6 pm September 30th,. Please ensure the unit is pre-advised before returning to the terminal to avoid delays. Rail: There will be no train departures after September 29th. Storage: Port Houston will not charge the ocean carriers storage on days the terminal gates are closed. Please reach out to the ocean carrier directly for free-time inquiries. General Cargo/Multipurpose Facilities: ILA-supported public general cargo/multi-purpose facilities are expected to be impacted by the work stoppage.

    With Hurricane Helene rapidly approaching Florida’s Big Bend region as a potentially devastating Category 4 storm, many Florida ports, including Canaveral, Jacksonville, and Tampa, have been closed in preparation. In addition, the ongoing labor strike on the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts further complicates the situation.     Port Houston Operations Update: USMX – ILA Pending Work Stoppage Tuesday, September 24, 2024, 6:53 PM At this time Port Houston is preparing for a potential work stoppage of all ILA-related activity at its public terminals starting on Tuesday, October 1. The USMX-ILA master contract is scheduled to expire at midnight on Monday, September 30. Port Houston is not involved in the contract negotiations or discussions. In the days leading up to September 30, we expect normal business operations. If parties fail to reach an agreement, a potential strike could impact operations starting on Tuesday, October 1. In addition to the container terminals, the ILA-supported public general cargo/multi-purpose facilities would be impacted. During a strike, we will continue with maintenance and provide other support services to our customers. Following the work stoppage, operations will resume, and we are committed to ensuring a quick and smooth recovery for everyone. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as we have them.
