If you got a 💥 ransom message💥 today, would you know what to do? Ransomware is spread through phishing emails that contain malicious attachments or through drive-by downloading (when a user unknowingly visits an infected website and then malware is downloaded and installed without the user's knowledge). The 🛑 signs of ransomware 🛑 can be obvious: A screen appears upon startup that asks for payment, or you get an error message when you try to open or find specific files. Or they can be subtle: You notice files with .crypted or .cryptor extensions - or no extensions at all. 1️⃣ Your first response should be to prevent further attacks. Disconnect the device from all networks, shut off your Wi-Fi, and power down the computer – one infected device can infect others. 2️⃣ Then assess the ransomed files and your security plans. If you have a full backup of all your files you may opt not to pay, but if the hackers have everything, you may have no choice. Call your MSSP or cyber insurance company for further guidance. Before you're under attack: Update your response plan and educate your employees about what to look for, who to call, and what steps to take. #DTScybersecurity
