While individual choices alone did not create the entirety of our climate crisis, they sure do make a difference. According to research done by the @epagov, 57% of transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions come from cars and SUVs. Little changes like taking public transportation in cities where it's accessible can go a long way in helping reduce our overall emissions as a country. Not everyone has that opportunity, however, and that's why we support the expansion of reliable bus and train systems across America. Green solutions can only go as far as access levels allow.

🌆 Chicago: city at the perfect intersection between the fight for racial equality, climate action, and criminal justice reform. Next week, members of our Dream team will touch down in Chicago to run a volunteer program at Lollapalooza while spreading the message of our work. 🎟️ Festivals are exciting, but what's most important to us is how the city sits at the intersection of all the issues we care about most. Few cities exemplify the compounding effect of historical systemic inequality for people of color like Chicago. We're looking forward to learning more about the solutions Chicagoans need to see in the world and the steps they're already taking to be an example for others in the fight for positive change.

The clean energy boom is just beginning thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, and it's a win for everyone. 🔋😁. The majority of these 300,000 jobs don't require a 4 year degree and pay well, meaning that we're helping solve our shared climate crisis while also reducing wealth inequality. We're excited about how far we've come in our transition to a greener economy, and we're even more excited about what lies ahead. #jobopportunity #greeneconomy #cleanenergy

As an organization, we talk about how we'll work with anyone to create a better future for everyone. Our support of deflection programs is the perfect example of this as we work to solve the opioid crisis destroying lives and families across America. Deflection programs are a collaborative intervention between police and public health systems that increase access to substance use and mental health treatment without requiring an arrest be made. We know that more than than 52% of individuals who were arrested 2 or more times in 2017 reported having a substance use disorder, and we know that incarceration is not an effective treatment for substance use. Knowing that 45% of deflection programs have led to local reductions in substance, we firmly believe that increasing public safety measures by expanding deflection programs will lead to a natural increase in public health. Incarceration will not end the opioid crisis, but deflection might. #publicsafety #publichealth #collaboration

Empathy is at the core of all that we do as an organization, because being able to hold space for other's feelings often means seeing beyond our own needs. We can't change the world only for people just like us. We need to create a better world knowing that we're not the only ones who have to live in it. As Empathy Network Leader and Justice Next Cohort mentor Gem (Undrea Jones) points out, we must always keep past and future generations in mind as we work to create the future we dream of.

During Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s break the silence surrounding mental health in BIPOC communities. The stigma and barriers to needed care are deeply rooted in systemic inequality and racism. We often talk about how these issues lead to negative outcomes in physical health, career projection, and educational opportunity for minority groups and not enough how these same systems wear down the #mentalhealth. Today we're taking a moment to ask you to join us in using your voice to advocate for both #empathy and system wide #change to create a future where everyone has access to the support they need and deserve. Not only that, we're asking you to take care of yourselves and those in your community because we are all in this together. 💚💜🧡
