The Downtown Austin Alliance has launched a national CEO search. We have hired executive search firm HRS Inc, specializing in finding executives for downtown management organizations, to lead the effort. "Ultimately, what we want is a really strong leader," said Whitney May Knight, chair of the DAA board. "We want somebody who has a very strong ability to work with partners and collaborate and build consensus and really lead the organization as Dewitt Peart has been able to do." The last day to submit a resume and qualifications to be considered for the position is August 23. We aim to name a new CEO by early 2025. We had some exciting advocacy wins at the last City Council meeting: 1) The Downtown Service Plan was unanimously approved 2) The council set our assessment rate 3) The Downtown Density Bonus Program Revamp won Council approval We are thankful to Councilmember Zo Qadri for working closely with us on the Downtown Density Bonus Program. The time to apply to be in the 2024 Holiday Stroll market is here and the deadline is quickly approaching! Apply to be a vendor at the Holiday Stroll market by August 1! The 2024 Holiday Stroll is December 7 from 3pm - 8pm; join us to celebrate our 30th year of bringing holiday cheer downtown. A tradition since 1994, Holiday Stroll signifies the official beginning of the holiday season in downtown Austin. Celebrations include the lighting of the Capitol tree, a family-friendly festival along Congress Avenue and the KUT/KUTX Sing-Along at the Capitol. The night will feature live music, interactive art activations, local food and artisan vendors (like yourself!) and a visit from Santa. We’re hiring an Urban Design Coordinator! The coordinator will support a variety of projects and programs within the organization, including but not limited to planning, urban design, mobility, economic development, real estate development, urban activations and other aspects of downtown vitality that advance the organization’s strategic plan. They will coordinate and advance deliverables by working collaboratively with the built environment, mobility, research and communication teams within the organization, as well as with external consultants and stakeholders. The Shoal Creek Conservancy announced the start of construction on two major projects in the downtown segment of the Shoal Creek Trail at the 6th Street Bridge - the installation of lighting under the bridge and a new stone parapet with pedestrian-level lighting along the edge of the bridge while restoring a retaining wall. This construction will temporarily close this part of the trail. Please use the detour along 9th Street and West Ave to bypass the Shoal Creek Trail between Duncan Park and the 4th Street Bridge.
