The Downtown Austin Alliance presents an outdoor movie experience with the creators of Shaolin Jazz called CAN I KICK IT? Downtown Austin Movie Series in Republic Square. At each event movies will be scored live (scene-by-scene) with a blend of Hip Hop, Soul, Rock and more mixed by DJ 2-Tone Jones. The result is a live, remixed soundtrack to the movies using music to complement the dialogue and storyline while also incorporating special DJ techniques to accentuate elements in different scenes. On Friday, October 25, come enjoy a screening of the classic supernatural comedy Ghostbusters (PG), starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver. In the film, three parapsychologists forced out of their university jobs set up shop as a unique ghost removal service in New York City, attracting frightened yet skeptical customers. The event is free for all ages and open to the public. Festivities will kick off at 7pm with an opening DJ set, followed by the film shortly after 8pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food trucks and other amenities will be on site. https://lnkd.in/gcQcUcZB

Downtown Trail Updates: The third phase of detours on the Butler Hike and Bike Trail for the Waterloo Greenway Confluence starts this week and lasts through mid-December. The new route will take users over Waller Creek on a temporary creek crossing that does not require bicyclists to dismount their bikes. The detour will be fenced in for your safety. The Shoal Creek Conservancy is improving the 6th Street bridge on the Shoal Creek Trail. The latest update is that the masonry parapet on the north side of the bridge is complete and matches the south side, rehabilitating the structure's original character.

This is HUGE!
Earlier this week, Rally ATX signed a deal with Empire, empowering one of Austin's live music venues to acquire the property on which it is located in the iconic Red River Cultural District. The community's investment also supported the intention to expand Empire Control Room and Garage to increase capacity at the venue in the future. We asked Austin bands and musicians to help us make the announcement, and here are the great things they shared. Please join us in congratulating Empire and Heard Entertainment, as well as the stakeholders of the Austin Cultural Trust and the Live Music Capital, for securing another great venue for many more years of artists and shows to come!

Downtown Austin Alliance reposted this
A round of applause to the amazing Downtown Austin Alliance team for yesterday’s exceptional #IssuesOverLunch conversation, focused on #InclusiveProsperityDowntown! Biggest thanks go to Angela Navarro and Vanessa Olson for all of the hard work, brilliant orchestration, and invitation to join such a stellar group of community leaders to provide hard-hitting and honest insights into the intentional efforts underway, for providing and safeguarding #EquitableAccess to #DowntownAustin, for all! I was thrilled to accompany other upstanding community advocates, in Tom Noonan, CEO Visit Austin, and Nicole Klepadlo, Interim CEO at Red River Cultural District, pressing alongside our coalition, the Diversity Ethnic Chamber Alliance (DECA) for maximized opportunities, useful recommendations, and the reviewing of hard lessons learned around engaging ALL necessary voices in conversations around Austin's forthcoming evolution. With our sweeping, developing cityscape alongside us (courtesy of Fairmont Austin), we learned all about the #BOOSTProgram making big, positive change in #Baltimore for #SmallBusiness….and we dreamed of new opportunity possible for Austin too, thanks to the amazing overview from visionary, Shelonda Stokes, CEO at Downtown Partnership of Baltimore! The future ahead looks bright, familia—it is brightest, however, when we commit to progress TOGETHER! Big thanks to friends and colleagues who were present: Enrique Castro Suriano, Allison Moujaes, Ruben Rodriguez, Robert Rice, Mexic-Arte Museum, Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GAHCC), Lia Pette Truitt, Nico Ramsey, heath creech, Kevin Brown, Paulina Artieda (she/her/hers/ella)
