Pride Month spotlights LGBTQ2IA voices and celebrates LGBTQ2IA culture, achievements, and activism through a series of events and programs held throughout the month. To celebrate Pride, DOWL’s Lake Oswego office sponsored Lake Oswego’s inaugural Pride LO festival on June 2nd at Millennium Plaza Park. We had a great time celebrating and supporting our community. #PrideMonth #EqualityForAll #AuthenticSelf

Meet Marissa Madsen, PE. She started at DOWL back in 2005 as a construction inspection intern and today, nearly 20 years later, she is running projects as a construction project manager. She first pursued a path in engineering to fulfill a passion for being outdoors and it has blossomed into a rewarding career. Marissa loves what she does and wants to see more women bring their unique perspective to the construction engineering field. Her advice for women interested in pursuing a career in construction engineering is to have confidence in yourself and speak up when you think something isn’t right. Check out the video to learn more about Marissa, her job, and her hobbies outside of work. It’s flag day! On June 14, 1777, the first official national flag of the United States of America was approved by the Continental Congress. It featured 13 alternating red and white stripes and 13 white stars, representing the 13 colonies. Fun fact: An Ohio high school student actually designed the current, 50-star flag before Alaska and Hawaii achieved statehood, and his history grade was changed from a B- to an A when his design was later selected. This flag was raised for the first time on July 4, 1960, shortly after Hawaii joined the union. #flagday

Earlier this month, DOWL’s Anchorage office participated in Anchorage Bike to Work Day 2024. Several #DOWLies joined the fun by ditching their cars 🚗 and opting to commute to the office on their bicycles 🚴🏾, while others staffed our treat station and handed out drinks and snacks to riders. Overall, the event was a huge success and a great excuse to get some exercise, help reduce our carbon footprint, and enjoy some sunshine. Check out some photos 📷 from the day! If you participated in the event, we’d love to see your photos and get snack suggestions for next year! #BikeToWorkDay #sustainability #Anchorage #BikeMonth #WorldBikeDay

Our offices recently buzzed with excitement as we hosted the second annual Bring a Kid to Work Day event! The halls were filled with laughter, curiosity, and the promise of a bright future. 🔆🌈 The kids had wide eyes and even wider smiles as they peeked into our world of engineering, surveying, environmental science, planning, and inspecting. 😃 We believe that these young minds are the architects of tomorrow. We hope to ignite their passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) by introducing them to it early. Who knows? Maybe one day, they’ll be the ones designing sustainable bridges, mapping out cities, or safeguarding our environment. 🌉🏙️🏞️ #DOWLInspires #FutureEngineers #BringAKidToWorkDay #WorkingParents #PeopleWhoMakeItHappen #OfficeCulture #STEMCareers

May is National Historic Preservation month. This month promotes the importance of preserving our country’s historic sites and cultural heritage. Preservation is typically performed by historical societies, government agencies, preservation organizations, or private businesses. Joining forces to further preservation efforts helps to safeguard our nation’s history, customs, and identity. Here at DOWL, our cultural resource professionals collaborate on the management of historic sites every day. 👇 Check out some of the recent projects our architectural historians have worked on. #HistoricPreservation #CulturalResources #PeopleWhoMakeItHappen Julia Fulkerson, MDS-HP Amy Ramirez
