DOWL simply wouldn’t be what it is without our people, and we love finding fun ways to feature and celebrate them. That’s how we came up with the idea of creating a video showcasing real #DOWLies following their personal and professional passions. This week we’d like to introduce you to a few of them. After attending a public meeting for the Wiley Post Will Rogers Memorial Airport Master Plan Update project, our team went for a long walk on the beach...of the Arctic Ocean. Believe it or not, these photos were taken at 10 pm in Utqiagvik, Alaska where the sun won’t drop below the horizon again until August 1. #DOWLinTheWild #AviationEngineering #PeopleWhoMakeItHappen #MidnightSun #Alaska

Pride Month spotlights LGBTQ2IA voices and celebrates LGBTQ2IA culture, achievements, and activism through a series of events and programs held throughout the month. To celebrate Pride, DOWL’s Lake Oswego office sponsored Lake Oswego’s inaugural Pride LO festival on June 2nd at Millennium Plaza Park. We had a great time celebrating and supporting our community. #PrideMonth #EqualityForAll #AuthenticSelf

Meet Marissa Madsen, PE. She started at DOWL back in 2005 as a construction inspection intern and today, nearly 20 years later, she is running projects as a construction project manager. She first pursued a path in engineering to fulfill a passion for being outdoors and it has blossomed into a rewarding career. Marissa loves what she does and wants to see more women bring their unique perspective to the construction engineering field. Her advice for women interested in pursuing a career in construction engineering is to have confidence in yourself and speak up when you think something isn’t right. Check out the video to learn more about Marissa, her job, and her hobbies outside of work. It’s flag day! On June 14, 1777, the first official national flag of the United States of America was approved by the Continental Congress. It featured 13 alternating red and white stripes and 13 white stars, representing the 13 colonies. Fun fact: An Ohio high school student actually designed the current, 50-star flag before Alaska and Hawaii achieved statehood, and his history grade was changed from a B- to an A when his design was later selected. This flag was raised for the first time on July 4, 1960, shortly after Hawaii joined the union. #flagday
