It’s been two months since that day. Every day, I am grateful for my freedom. Thank you Almar Latour, Dow Jones, and The Wall Street Journal for the support you showed me and my family both during and after my imprisonment. You helped amplify my story and told the world that I deserved to be free. Journalism is NOT a crime.
August 1, 2024 is a day that will live with me forever. It was an honor to be on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to welcome WSJ reporter Evan Gershkovich home after 461 days of wrongful detention in Russia. In addition to greeting Evan, we celebrated the safe return of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist Alsu Kurmasheva among others that night. That’s why it was wonderful to see her again last week at our Dow Jones office in NYC. Her strength and resilience are admirable–and will be a driving force in our fight to protect journalists and the bedrock of a free press. Journalism is not a crime.
