Create, manage, optimize, and scale content across channels with dotCMS

About us

dotCMS is a content management system that helps global enterprises with multiple brands, product lines, or franchises that oversee several locations that struggle with the complexities of managing hundreds to thousands of sites and applications across their company. Not only do they need to manage multiple websites, but they also need to localize and customize content across languages and channels. Brands such as Dairy Queen, Newell, Firstmac, Telus, and Wordline have chosen dotCMS for its unique ability to manage thousands of sites and consolidate multiple CMSs’ onto a single, unified instance of dotCMS to streamline content operations across teams while saving money on platform costs. dotCMS’ hybrid approach to content management also means that companies have the choice to deliver content traditionally or headlessly. Developers can use dotCMS headlessly and build the front end in their framework of choice while still giving marketers visual editing tools right within dotCMS so they can manage pages and layouts and go to market with their business-critical content without being dependent on technical teams.   dotCMS is committed to following the highest security standards in the business and is SO2 Type II and ISO 27001:2022 certified, so IT teams can rest assured that their data is protected in dotCMS Cloud. While some IT teams may prefer to maintain full control over their data, dotCMS has flexible deployment options, and organizations can run dotCMS in their own cloud environment,  Not all organizations have the in-house resources they need to execute their digital strategy. To ensure the success of every dotCMS customer, we provide best-in-class support and dedicated customer experience teams. Our global partner network can help with everything from strategy to complete implementation, and we offer additional professional services packages for ongoing maintenance, go-live support, and best practices consulting.

Last week in Montréal, dotCMS brought together vendors, partners, industry leaders, and users to discuss the future of CMS at the #UniversalCMSSummit. The CMS market is reconverging on a solution that matches the expectations of all teams: developers, content editors, marketing teams, and compliance editors. That is why it is more important now than ever to ensure content is universally editable, deliverable, and deployable—a #UniversalCMS. dotCMS is excited about the future and where last week's conversations will move the industry. We are thankful to all who contributed to such a successful summit!

Have you listened to the newest episode of the Elless Media podcast with Larry Swanson? The CMS landscape has evolved a lot over the past couple of decades. Recently, headless CMSs and decoupled content architectures have appeared to address the need for omnichannel content experiences. While their separation of the management of content from its presentation offers many benefits, these systems have left many users dissatisfied and disillusioned. dotCMS VP of Product Preston So argues that the solution to this situation is #UniversalCMS. Listen to the episode now on Spotify, Apple, Android, and anywhere you get your podcasts.

💡Fresh from #CMSConnect24 and #UniversalCMSSummit! 💡 🔑 Last week we got to network with colleagues from around the world driving CMS evolution, AI innovation, accessibility, sustainability, and so much more! Thanks to Janus Boye’s team and partners dotCMS, Kentico, Little Forest, Magnolia, Netlify, Optimizely, Uniform, SearchStax and others for organizing the CMS community. ✨ Beyond the high caliber and variety of talks, what we appreciated the most was the people. It was an opportunity to gather around technologies that solve our universal problems, down to the climate emergency. We got to slow down and talk about collective challenges, with a brainstorm at the end on creating an industry association to expand such discussions. Ultimately, content is developed, managed, and viewed by people - and so Lo Etheridge’s talk at the #UniversalCMSSummit on the role of empathy in CMS was essential. 🤍 It was a great pleasure to connect with partners, leaders, and strategists across the sector. Were you there? In the comments, let us know which sessions stood out to you! #CMSConnect24 #EvolvingCMS #KnowledgeSharing #IteratingSolutions

Don't get me wrong: headless has been a boon for the CMS industry. • Headless allows developers to use the latest and greatest in JavaScript technologies the way they want to. • Headless obviates the overhead of needing to deeply understand CMS rendering layers and templating engines. • Headless has unleashed an unprecedented wave of innovation in CMS. But headless is incomplete. Who and what does it leave hanging? • Headless makes it hard for content teams to leverage long-standing mental models like visual editing across on-web and off-web presentation layers. • Headless increases the dependence content teams have on developers, whether to implement visual editing or to facilitate long-standing editorial workflows. • Headless overindexes on developer experience at the expense of the visual editorial experience. That's why the #UniversalCMS paradigm is gaining such momentum in the CMS world. Many vendors are already using the term to describe how they're moving beyond headless and beyond the editorial dissatisfaction that comes with it. And with two milestone events in Montréal this past week, the Universal CMS Summit and CMS Connect, the industry is taking note. The #UniversalCMS moves beyond headless, beyond monolithic. It focuses on what *both* content teams and developer teams need in a headless-first, tech-agnostic, omnichannel future where one can't live without the other. (H/T Ryan Picchini)

Last week in Montréal I had the privilege of helping host the Universal CMS Summit (sidebar: so proud of the dotCMS team for all their hard work on this), and attending Boye & Company's CMS Connect 2024. These two events were an amazing experience to connect with so many CMS industry leaders. As a vendor, you know you’re onto something significant when an entire community rallies around it. Universal CMS – the concept that the CMS should be built to serve both developer and content editor needs, is generating incredible momentum. It was amazing to see industry leaders, vendors, partners and practitioners aligning on what's next for CMS. Here’s what stood out to me: 💥 The “Mount Rushmore” of CMS experts, such as Deane Barker, (who literally wrote the book on Web Content Management) and content all-star Jeff Eaton provided valuable insights and validation on the direction as it relates to naming conventions and content strategy 💥 dotCMS’s Preston So, alongside other CMS vendors such as Jan Schulte from Magnolia, Guy Brown from Crownpeak and Dominik Pinter from Kentico delivered powerful keynotes, demos and shared case studies proving the crucial point: The future of CMS is universally editable, developable and deployable – regardless of the presentation layer  💥 The Universal CMS is not a new name for an old concept – it’s the vision for the future of this integral category, and an effort bring together what has been fragmented for so long Huge shoutout to all of our amazing speakers & panelists from the Universal CMS Summit (Lo E., Sana Kamalmaz, Nabil Orfali, Jesus Manuel Olivas, 🚀 Freddy Montes, Arcadio Quintero, Larry Swanson, Olivier D., Rebecca Wyatt), and to Janus Boye for collaborating with us and putting on another amazing CMS Connect event! Exciting times are ahead in a category in desperate need of alignment… stay tuned 👀

Back in Costa Rica from an incredible 5-day trip to Montreal, where I had the privilege of attending the Universal CMS Summit and CMS Connect 2024. We at dotCMS got together with an impressive group of CMS vendors, experts, developers, and content authors. During my time there, I: 🗣️ Engaged in numerous talks and keynotes, absorbing insights from industry leaders 📺 Presented the Universal Visual Editor, showcasing its capabilities and answering questions from the attendees also some 1-to-1 demos. 🏉 Participated in a panel discussion on CMS, channels, AI, content, and the human element in technology. The bests were definitely the networking and conversations, truly enlightening. From discussing better content editing experiences with Joyce Peralta from McGill University to exploring how important search is still for CMSs with Mike DiLascio from SearchStax, Jesus Manuel Olivas about web technology and visual editing and so many brilliant people. Each interaction added a valuable perspective to my understanding of the CMS landscape. It's clear that our industry is mission is to enhance the editorial experience without compromising developer flexibility. We're aiming for a future where CMS implementations are not just tech-agnostic but also deployment-agnostic, and that's what #UniversalCMS is all about. From my perspective, there is a collective agreement that while CMSs have come a long way in empowering users to create and distribute content across various channels, there's still so much potential for growth. New challenges, emerging channels, and advancing technologies continue to push us to innovate and improve. I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to connect with so many brilliant minds in our field. The insights gained and relationships formed will undoubtedly influence my work in building better dotCMS solutions. Here's to continuous learning, collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of what's possible in content management! #CMS #ContentManagement #dotCMS #UniversalVisualEditor
