To embrace the new, we have to divest the old. Redundant systems, particularly those in IT, create a complex environment that hinders the DON’s ability to achieve information advantage. The recently released DON Structured Divestments memo outlines a clear path to identify, assess, and sunset redundant technologies and reinvest in modern and secure capabilities for our Warfighters. Saving money might not feel as cool as investing in new tech, but it’s a prerequisite to innovation adoption.

#JUSTRELEASED: DON Structured Divestment Approach. This goal of this memo is to provide industry best practices and information to drive structured divestments in support of accelerating modernization and transformation of Information Technology (IT) solutions systems/environments.   The structured divestment approach is the execution of the Under Secretary of the Navy’s direction to “aggressively identifying, assessing and ultimately eliminating redundant system” and is the execution of Navy’s Operation Cattle Drive – “the Cattle Drive process allows for smarter investments that drive modernization across each of the IT mission areas.”   Thank you to Beth Caswell and Justin Fanelli for your leadership on this effort!
