"Pat's journey started in 1998 when he was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Living with declining lung function brought many limitations and the need for supportive oxygen, but Pat defied the odds for 10 years before needing a life-saving lung transplant. In May of 2009, Pat received a lung transplant at the Cleveland Clinic and has been so grateful for the many years he has been given due to organ donation! There have been difficult days during recovery and challenges adapting to the lifelong requirements and routines of an organ recipient. But under the care of his outstanding medical team and the support of his family and friends, Pat has been able to celebrate many milestones as he hit the 15th anniversary of his lung transplant this year at the age of 83! He has celebrated 60 years of marriage, is a father of 3 daughters, grandfather to 11, and a friend to many others! Pat was the driving force behind establishing a patient support group and is a tireless advocate for organ donation. None of this was thought to be possible when this journey began, and he now continues to be a testament to the miracle of organ donation and the impact it can have on the lives of so many!" 💙💚 #DonateLife #MensHealth

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth! African Americans make up 13% of the U.S. population, but 28% of those are waiting for an organ transplant. Dr. Velma Scantlebury, the first African American female transplant surgeon in the U.S., reminds us: "Increasing organ donation in minority communities is not just about numbers—it's about saving lives and giving hope to families." Your decision to sign up as a donor can save lives and bring hope to those on the transplant waiting list and their families. 💙💚 #DonateLife Thank you to The Association for Multicultural Affairs in Transplantation for creating the artwork to educate, honor, and celebrate #Juneteenth

When Matilda was born, she was not breathing. After being placed on a ventilator, her parents learned that she was also in kidney failure and Matilda then spent the first 100 days of her life in the NICU. After going home, she began dialysis treatment and had to do this for 10 hours every night for 2 years. Shortly after her 2nd birthday, it was determined that her dad, Tony, could be her living donor. This month, Matilda is one year post-transplant, thanks to the generous gift from her dad! "We were grateful I was a match for Matilda, and the surgery and process were as good as we could have hoped for. It has been great post-transplant with Matilda able to live a more normal life without daily dialysis. Personally, I feel the same as before donating my kidney, and my life has not been adversely impacted at all." –Tony. 💙💚 #HappyFathersDay #DonateLife #LivingDonation Register your decision today to be an organ, eye and tissue donor at RegisterMe.org or in your iPhone Health App.

WWII and Korean War veteran Orville Allen served his country for 27 years and taught in his community for nearly 4 decades. After a long life of service, he made one final act: donating his liver. Orville now has a place of honor as the oldest organ donor in the United States, at 98 years old. Orville passed away on May 29, and his liver was successfully transplanted into a 72-year-old woman. His family says his story has already encouraged more community members to register as organ, eye and tissue donors. “A whole bunch of people at the visitation and funeral who were former students and friends said, ‘You know what? I’m going to put donor on my driver’s license right now.’” 💙💚 #DonateLife Register your decision today at RegisterMe.org and read more of Orville's story here: https://bit.ly/4b7M1j3

Ian was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver in November 2022, and by December 2023, Ian and his wife Brittni were encouraged to begin a search for a living donor. Their friend Anna underwent testing to find out if she could be Ian's living liver donor, and this past April, Ian and Brittni received the news that Anna was a match! Ian and Anna's surgery was on May 31, and today, they are both doing well. "They both went in and came out in great shape. Ian was up and talking the very next day! He’s already been up moving, eating and looking forward to healing. Ian is happy to be on the other side of surgery and taking day-by-day the next challenge to recover and return home to his family." –Brittni (also the baker of these amazing cookies pictured!) More than 64,000 men are currently on the national transplant waiting list. You can help! While playing basketball, Sandeep tore his ACL. After three years of wearing a knee brace and not being able to return to an active lifestyle, Sandeep sought a second opinion and followed his surgeon’s recommendations to have ACL reconstruction surgery using donor tissue. A decade after his surgery, Sandeep’s knee remains fully functional, and he no longer wears a brace. He's able to enjoy playing in the park and other activities with his young son. 💙💚 #DonateLife #TissueDonation Thank you to MTF Biologics for this story!
