  • From 13 August 2024 to 15 August 2024, Mr. Mark Gorak, Principal Director for Resources & Analysis, OCIO, in continuation of the OCIO’s Combatant Command (CCMD) Engagement Series, met with senior leaders from U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), & U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM). These coordinated engagements highlight the Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) commitment to force readiness by urging components to both transition to the Cyber Expected Service (CES) and intentionally code work roles as the two foremost significant steps towards enhancing recruitment, retention, and development flexibilities, tracking workforce qualification standards, establishing workforce proficiency expectations, and enforcing workforce standards across the DoD. Mr. Gorak also briefed the commands on the Cyber Workforce Strategy & Implementation Plan and the DoD’s retention and incentive programs like the Cyber Service Academy (CSA) and Targeted Local Market Supplement (TLMS). Collectively, these systems and programs aim to better equip and develop the nation’s cyber readiness posture. Visit https://lnkd.in/gw8-cbcB for more info.

One highlight of the trip was the opportunity to engage with companies in the financial sector and learn from their efforts at adopting artificial intelligence and machine learning. DoD CIO is grateful to all of the private sector partners who made this trip possible. #ZeroTrust #Fulcrum #Cloud #Software #DIBCS

  • Last week, Randy Resnick and the DoD ZT PfMO team and DAU (Defense Acquisition University), along with Zero Trust creator John Kindervag, visited Huntsville, AL, for a successful 3-day engagement with Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Army Missile Command (AMC). The team covered cyber threats, implementation planning, and modernization efforts, enhancing our strategic approach to Zero Trust. Collaborative exchanges and training sessions strengthened partnerships, paving a clear path towards achieving Zero Trust by FY27. #ZeroTrust #cybersecurity #DoD #PfMO #DAU

  • Line of Effort (LOE) 1 in the DoD Fulcrum strategy focuses on providing joint warfighting IT capabilities to expand the strategic dominance of U.S. forces and mission partners. Capabilities for the 21st century must be functional, scalable, sustainable, and secure. LOE 1 is all about improved decision making and competitive advantage. It is about enabling swift and decisive responses to high-tempo, multi-domain operations. Ultimately, it’s about improving the warfighters’ ability to gain decisive advantage on the battlefield.   That starts with ensuring warfighters across the joint and combined force can quickly and effectively use all the available data, now and in the future. This may seem obvious, but it depends on technology that can make use of both structured and unstructured data at scale. When it comes to data its about the right information to the right people at the right time. Data sharing agreements, protocols, and network infrastructure must enable global capabilities that share and access data across the DoD, IC, and our allies and partners. Simply sharing data and moving it around more effectively is not enough. We must secure the data, software, and transport against multiple persistent threats, and in degraded environments, from stateside garrisons to the forward edge of the battlefield.   LOE 1 includes four crosscutting objectives to get this done: ·      Provide an intuitive and adaptive user experience. ·      Treat and secure data as a strategic product ·      Harness advanced technologies for strategic advantage. ·      Outpace adversaries with Global C3 capabilities. • From Sunday, 21 July through Tuesday, 23 July 2024, the DoD Cyber Service Academy (CSA), alongside the George Washington University (GWU) National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C), held a Scholar Bootcamp that allowed 2024 DoD CSA scholarship recipients to ask questions, meet their cohort, and familiarize themselves with the scholarship specifics that define the DoD CSA. Scholars participated in an exciting agenda led by the GWU team, and Ms. Alice Smitley (DoD CSA Program Manager) filled with special guest speakers, networking opportunities, and informative sessions that offered scholars valuable DoD CSA insights and set the stage for successful program participation.
